Sudden Strike is one of those games, which can get you glued to your PC for hours and hours Sudden Strike is one of those games that makes you think, its all about strategy as the games is all about scenarios, e.g. get a certain hostage out of a certain building you have got to place all of you units accordingly, if you don’t then it’s game over…
***GRAPHICS***
The graphics are very good, and there are some excellent explosions effect put into the game which adds massively to the realism of the game. The whole game world is in a perceived 3d but in 2d. It has very little ‘rendered’ graphics (I think only explosions). But in my opinion this technique works very well, and makes the graphics very detailed indeed.
***MAIN OBJECTIVE***
The main theme of the game, though is war, and if that’s not you cup of tea then don’t buy this game. You are one country and generally the idea is to attack the other side, or to defend an attack from the opposition.
Al large amount of the game is about strategy, where to place the troops with guns and where to place the larger tanks. The games about completing the many different scenarios available in the game. None of those are relatively easy, it will take a large amount of thinking strategy and hard work, if your are to succeed in the game. It will take a large amount of research in to what each of this units under you command can do, and if your short on knowledge, then you’ll get caught out.
***SIZE OF DEMO***
The demo may be a good way of seeing if you like this game, its a hefty 65MB download but it does give you a hands on taster of the game. If your going to download it before you buy the game, then I would recommend using a download manager like ‘Godzilla’, ‘Get right or ‘Download Accelerator’. These programs will enable you to download a little a night, and resume any lost connection. Brilliant for downloading a large file like this one with a 56k modem internet connection.
***SOUND***
Sound in the game isn’t brilliant but what you would expect from such a game. Relevant explosion effects are in place, but there is always one thing that annoys me in this type of game. When you click on troops why do they have to shout naff things like “yes sir”, “Right on” or “Obeyed” .
Price of this game, if you want the original will now be very cheap. The original may cost as little as £14.99. There are now add-ons available for the game giving the user new missions, maps etc. This may though bring up the price of the game to £20 £25 if they decide to bundle it together,
***SUMMARY***
This game basically is one of the best strategic war games on the PC, but may not be everyone’s cut of tea. Many will find this game just too depressing, especially with the current events in Afghanistan.
It provides good detailed graphics, good sound, but essential it’s a single player game, lie most PC games. Although this game can be played on the internet, may just won’t bother, due to the hassle involved, and length of wars that have to endured..
