When you have a baby, you find yourself bombarded with advice from all quarters - some useful, some ridiculous, and some just very annoying! So you can imagine my reaction when, having always used Savlon for any burns, rashes, itches and other skin complaints, my mother in law insisted on thrusting a pot of Sudocrem at me and instructed me to use it at the slightest hint of trouble on my newborn's skin. Stupid, I thought, especially when she kept referring to it as "Magic Cream". I was even less impressed when I first tried it on baby's nappy rash - it is thicker than many skincare products, and takes a while to rub in.

Imagine my surprise the next morning when I changed baby's nappy and found no trace of nappy rash. I was secretly impressed, but thought it must be a fluke - nothing else had worked, maybe the rash had just cleared up on its own. Not so. I've been using this on myself and my daughter for over 3 years now, and in fact I refer to it as "Magic Cream" because it really does work! It did a great job when I burnt my thumb slightly, and I've used it for all manner of insect bites (even dog bites!), rashes and my daughter's mild eczema - she used to get nasty patches behind her knees, but the Sudocrem cleared them up in no time.

I don't know why this cream seems to be so much more effective than the other antiseptic creams on the market, but my GP tells me to stick to what works for me & my daughter, so I always make sure that we've got some Sudocrem handy. I keep one of the large 250g tubs in the bathroom - this will last for ages as you only need to apply a relatively small amount for it to work. I also have a tiny pot which I take with me whenever we go out just in case. For such a good product, I think this works out cheap - I've paid more in the past for creams which run out quickly and aren't as good.

The packaging of this product is very plain, no-nonsense grey and red, but what's contained inside is like gold dust for any parent! A must-have for the medicine cabinet.

This is excellent for preventing nappy rash but it does not come out of the carpet! Lin
