This is a review of the September 2008 issue.
Sugar Sugar is a magazine with a target audience of the ages between 13-19. It's one of the most popular magazines in the UK and it's filled to the brim with advice, gossip, real life stories, fashion, quizzes and beauty. A new issue is released every month and it comes with a free gift such as make up or a make up bag and other things that interest teen girls. It is also has a free magazine with it called Lad Mag. It's cost is £2.30.
Sugarscape Sugarscape is the sugar website, on this website you can play games, win compititions, get up to date with gossip and whats going on in celeb
world, get advice on beauty and fashion and watch videos. Some of the things on the website can only be accessed if you have an account.
Lad Mag Lad Mag is a recent addition to Sugar magazine, it's only a few pages long and theres advice from a boys point of view and it's all about boys really. Theres also an interview with a famous guy celebrity.
The Magazine I have been collecting Sugar for quite a while now and I haven't changed the magazine I read since, before I read Sugar I was reading Mizz which I thought was too young for me and I haven't had one problem with Sugar.
The issue I am reviewing has 139 pages. On the front cover theres a picture of Cheryl Coal, the interview is with Cheryl for this issue, the main writing is a mint green colour, a neon yellow colour, white, black and pink. The cover advertises all the really interesting that are contained in the magazine. Druggie cheerleader "I pop pills before practise" Deadly divorce "Mum left Dad so he stabbed me" Love split secrets... 8 exes reveal what went wrong 261 holiday "It" buys 4 celebrity eyeliner tricks to try now p85 We ♥ Cheryl Strop Alert! Why your mate's really in a mood. These are the stories, interviews and articles that draw me to the magazine and make me want to read it, this is the same with most Sugar readers.
The Contents The contents are put into 5 different sections. On the cover We heart Cheryl, "Mum left Dad so he stabbed me", "I pop pills before practise", Love split secrets, Why your mate's really in a mood, Amazing soap star makeovers, 4 celebrity eyeliner tricks to try now. Up front Write here write now!, The shame! Will Paris sign anything?, The hit list, It's only fair, Hot boy news, The Hills:who's who, Madden about the boys, Mary-Kate in old dude snog shocker, Blimey: how bendy is Harry? Top reads "I grew up in the 17th century", Whe reinvention works, Filthy rich and on the rob, Is your mate a social climber?, House party hell, 10 signs you're boring someone, How to beat the bullies, Worst Saturday job outfits ever!, Helicoptersand hell-raising: Celeb festival secrets revealed! Shop Style addict, Check you out, Shopping list, The perfect dress for your body, The look we love, Get white right, 10 of the best, All that glitters, 15 hair repairs, Celeb make-up must-haves, Get the look. And the rest Free stuff everyday of the month, Suscribe to Sugar, Write club, Where to buy..., Win!, Free for you, Sorted, Sugar desitny, Ask me anything.
There are 18 adverisments in total which is quite alot but it's advertising Roxy clothing, perfume, make up and hair treatments which would be interesting for teenage girls. As you can see from my list above the magazine is packed with everything you could possibly want. It's a small magazine and its easy to fit in a bag. The quality of journalism is excellent, it's written professionally but also theres words like "OMG" and "LOL" in articles which are the sort of words teens use. Also, when you suscribe to the magazine you get a good gift which changes in each issue, the suscribing gift in the issue is Barry M Metallic Make-Up worth over £24.
I Like the real life pages, theres always really interesting stories in them, I also like the fashion pages because all the clothes are really cool and they're at reasonable prices. I also like the quizzes and shame pages. The last couple of pages are filled with avertisments but I like the last page which is "Ask me anything" and readers ask a celebrity loads of questions and they can answer the question of pass on the questions, an example of a question is "Which celebs do you hate?" to which the celebrity (Katie Price) replied "I can't possibly tell you that!" and she passed on the question. Some of the questions are really funny.
Conclusion You must buy this magazine and I promise you won't be disappointed! For what you get it's brilliant value and I am going to continue buying this magazine untill I grow out of it.
I hope this review has been useful. Comment!
