Manufacturer's product description
The Sun Fire E2900 server delivers enterprise-class availability and scalability at entry-level prices. Scaling up to 12 UltraSPARC IV processors with chip multithreading technology executing 24 simultaneous computing threads, this high-performance, rack-optimized server is ideal for a wide range of compute-intensive applications. The SunFire E2900 server protects investments with the ability to mix and manage UltraSPARC IV and UltraSPARC III processors - running at their rated speeds - in the same system, and offers advanced features such as Dynamic Reconfiguration for hot swapping processor/memory boards while applications are up and running, for higher availability. This server also comes remote-services ready for preemptive support and preloaded with a rich set of applications with the Java Enterprise System. This server is available in the Sun Customer Ready Systems (CRS) program for factory integration into ready-to-deploy, customer-specific solutions.
Advantages: Cheap entry level Sun SPARC from 1997 Disadvantages: Build quality is PC like, and low cache processors
...The SunUltraSPARC5 workstation was brought out in 1997, and was priced so you could have one on your desk for approx 1000 US Dollars. They stopped shipping to customers in May 2002. These days, it is not a fast machine, but still they are perfectly useable for many workstation and server tasks.
Processor and Memory -
This model has an UltraSPARC IIi processor which is, of course, 64 bit and is clocked at 360 MHz. You can have 1GB of memory in the workstation, installed as up to 4 DIMMS, which must be installed in pairs. "Normal" PC memory will not work in these workstations. The 260MHz model only has 256kB cache (same with the 270MHz processor) For better performance, you need the 2MB cache version on the 333 or 400MHz versions.
Storage -
There is one HDD bay in the machine, although if you remove the floppy drive, you...

Advantages: Heavy duty usage, graphics Disadvantages: Bulky
...4200 just about does the trick... just about. A desktop is still more powerful so if you have the space and don't need the portability of the laptop, get a desktop.
The keyboard has a nice touch and the processor is very quiet, unlike some laptops which just makes loads of noise.
I leave my laptop on almost 24/7 and it's fine, so from this point I think it's a heavy duty laptop and suitable for heavy use.
The setback of this laptop could be that it's heavy, about 3.5kgs, and it's big and bulky, a price to pay for a high graphics compatible laptop. The quality and standard is good, the service dell gives is exceptional, that I can't deny. I'm very satisfied with this laptop, however more RAM would be needed in my opinion if you were to do some serious graphics rendering. 512MB at the moment is still not enough.
The disk space...
