Sun Fire X4100 - Opteron 256 3 GHz

Advantages: So many...stability, overclocks insanely & most bang for the buck.
Disadvantages: None except that Intel C2Ds now yields better performance.

Finally the Opteron 165 have one other feature that it´s entry level X2 siblings are a bit short of & thats probably why its so fast in so many applications & benchmarks that i have runned curious yet? its the doubled L2 cache (2x1MB) FYI I´m currently running this gem @ 2.7GHz (that´s a good 900Mhz OC) & the temp is so low compared to my former AMD A64 3200+ (Venice) around 15 degrees celsius lower on the average. I can also add that I bought this one just to OC the heck out of it, so immediately after the break-in time of 3 days I ramped up the speed adjusted the various settings in the BIOS & ran PRIME95, ORTHOS & 3DMARK06 I was utterly... Advantages: Price, Performance

...swiftech watercooling, I proceded to overclock the chip as much as possible on stock volts. This yielded a clock speed of 2600Mhz - thats 600Mhz above stock for no loss in stability and very little increased heat!!. Increasing the voltage by 5% above stock, a maximum of 3GHz was obtained. This is a 50% overclock which I think it quite staggering. I stress tested the pc using Prime95 for a few days to check that the chip was indeed stable at this speed and to my surprise it did not fail one test. I did not want to increase the voltage any more to see if I could squeeze any more power out of the chip as it was already running at 52 degrees C under load which I believe is hot enough for an Opteron cpu. Idle temperature was around 30 degrees C. Now, at a speed of 3GHz this chip can really hold its own especially in single threaded applications... Read review
