...The Sun UltraSPARC 5 workstation was brought out in 1997, and was priced so you could have one on your desk for approx 1000 US Dollars. They stopped shipping to customers in May 2002. These days, it is not a fast machine, but still they are perfectly useable for many workstation and server tasks. Processor and Memory - This model has an UltraSPARC IIi processor which is, of course, 64 bit and is clocked at 360 MHz. You can have 1GB of memory in the workstation, installed as up to 4 DIMMS, which must be installed in pairs. "Normal" PC memory will not work in these workstations. The 260MHz model only has 256kB cache (same with the 270MHz processor) For better performance, you need the 2MB cache version on the 333 or 400MHz versions. Advantages: NEBS compliant, 1U Ultra SCSI disk cage.
Disadvantages: EOL was 2002

...Here we have a handy little 1U disk cage, which will take up to three Ultra SCSI drives. Oh, and it's NEBS compliant, so you can put in datacenters and telephone exchanges. SCSI ports - Two single-ended ports, 68-pin SCSI connector - Can be daisy chained via port (2 max in a chain) Power - The disk cage can be powered by AC or DC power. (I used the AC model) which has an auto sensing power supply - takes 100 to 240 VAC. There is also a DC model, to go with the Netra range... The DC model will take -48 to -60 VDC. Drives - The drives are inserted at the front of the 19" rack mounted unit, SCA disks, on Sun SPUD type brackets. Advantages: Small, Light and runs Windows XP
Disadvantages: Under powered and runs hot

...The Notebook is SMALL and LIGHT that's it main features. 25.7cm x 21.8cm and only 1.4kg. The processor runs at 300Mhz and the device will probably come with a 6GB HD. The Laptop runs hot and the fan never really stops. The standard package comes with 64MB of memory and can be upgraded to 192MB. I have a 128MB upgrade chip installed, bringing it up to 192MB. Treat yourself and upgrade your memory. The original OS was WIN98. I upgrade my Protégé 3110CT to run Window XP pro. If you do upgrade then make sure you have the latest drivers for the external CD-ROM and remove the extra memory before the upgrade. As I remember, at some point it failed because it couldn't address the extra memory. With XP loaded reinstall the extra memory and the system will discover it. The system can be upgraded using the floppy disk drive... Read review
