Your life needs a little SPARC
Review of Sun Ultra 5 360 - UltraSPARC IIi 360 MHz by  sjhill

Advantages: Cheap entry level Sun SPARC from 1997
Disadvantages: Build quality is PC like, and low cache processors

...The Sun UltraSPARC 5 workstation was brought out in 1997, and was priced so you could have one on your desk for approx 1000 US Dollars. They stopped shipping to customers in May 2002. These days, it is not a fast machine, but still they are perfectly useable for many workstation and server tasks. Processor and Memory - This model has an UltraSPARC IIi processor which is, of course, 64 bit and is clocked at 360 MHz. You can have 1GB of memory in the workstation, installed as up to 4 DIMMS, which must be installed in pairs. "Normal" PC memory will not work in these workstations. The 260MHz model only has 256kB cache (same with the 270MHz processor) For better performance, you need the 2MB cache version on the 333 or 400MHz versions. Storage - There is one HDD bay in the machine, although if you remove the floppy drive, you... Read review

Pentium 4 and more
Review of Intel Pentium 4 2 GHz processor by  tommybut

Advantages: Fast
Disadvantages: Expensive

...for the Coppermine Pentium III's. At present time, RAMBUS is the only type of memory that the Pentium 4 supports. Fortunately, the price of RAMBUS is much more reasonable then it was at introduction. At the time this review is being written, 128MB of PC800 goes for about $150. The new 400MHz bus combined with PC800 RAMBUS allows a data throughput o up to 3.2GB/s as compared to 1.06GB/s for the 133MHz Front Side Bus Pentium III processors. SSE/2 And last, but not least is SSE2. SSE2 instructions unlock the true power of the Pentium 4 processor. In benchmarks on un-optimized software, a 1.5GHz Pentium 4 is about 25% faster than a 1GHz Pentium III. In some tests, it is actually slower than an 1.2 GHz Athlon. However, the key statement in this sentence is un-optimized code. When running optimized code, the Pentium 4 can almost double its speed in some... Read review

Pentium III the truth
Review of Intel Pentium III 1.13 GHz processor by  whitman_mark

Advantages: great speed, reliable
Disadvantages: cost

...The Intel Pentium Processors, says they have power...have they? 1.AMD and Pentiums are the same, aren’t they? I mean, they all have the same numbers, right? Not always, even though the numbers are the same, it depends on how efficiently the processor works. Personally, I believe Pentiums work best. 2.You are just saying that so that people don’t buy AMDs, right? Not at all. For instance, the is an Intel Celeron range and a Pentium III range. The extra money that makes the Pentium III more expensive is spent on developing the efficiency of the processor so that you get the very best it has to offer. Celeron is a make that is less reliable and has not been tuned to perfection even though they are still very reliable. 3.Why do you think AMDs are less reliable? I think they are reliable, but only... Read review
