Networked computing offers tremendous opportunities. But you need two things to take advantage of them: processing horsepower to deliver performance and developmental speed to get to market while the window of opportunity is still open. UltraSPARC modules give you both in a package that's easy to integrate, completely scalable and undeniably powerful.
Advantages: Cheap entry level Sun SPARC from 1997 Disadvantages: Build quality is PC like, and low cache processors
...The SunUltraSPARC 5 workstation was brought out in 1997, and was priced so you could have one on your desk for approx 1000 US Dollars. They stopped shipping to customers in May 2002. These days, it is not a fast machine, but still they are perfectly useable for many workstation and server tasks.
Processor and Memory -
This model has an UltraSPARC IIi processor which is, of course, 64 bit and is clocked at 360 MHz. You can have 1GB of memory in the workstation, installed as up to 4 DIMMS, which must be installed in pairs. "Normal" PC memory will not work in these workstations. The 260MHz model only has 256kB cache (same with the 270MHz processor) For better performance, you need the 2MB cache version on the 333 or 400MHz versions.
Storage -
There is one HDD bay in the machine, although if you remove the floppy drive, you can put...

Advantages: Brilliant value for money, huge overclocking headroom Disadvantages: havent come across any
...Bought this in feb '07, with an abit ab9 pro, very, very happy. stable oc'd 60% up to 2.8ghz per core, on stock voltage! now at 1.525 V (.2 V up) and 3.4 ghz per core (380 x 9), unfortunately cannot change multiplier as it is locked. don't cast it aside because of 800mhz fsb, having a 1-1 ratio between processor and ram is very good, and very acheivable at 800 mhz. exceptional performance on windows and linux alike. with tuniq tower, at 90% overclocked, i get idle temps of 26-30 and full load temps of 35-44 with fan on lowest setting. in antec 900 case. would buy again, no regrets regarding this purchase. pair it up with a 2900xt and you'll be well on your way to pc based lag-free gaming....

Advantages: Dual Core Technology, Fast, The CPU heatsink + fan are quiet Disadvantages: Be careful with the new S775 socket motherboards when installing the CPU cooler as can bend the mainboard if put to much pressure to lock the 4 locks
...I have used this processor retail version in many a custom built PC that I have done for people. I have tried the D805 (2.66Ghz) and the 3.0Ghz version but for cost and performance this CPU is the one to have for cost and performance in the series.
The only problem I can see is the fact that you can get the 900 series version of the 2.8Ghz for a very similar price. The difference between the two are price (but not a lot really a few quid), the core temperature is set lower and the cache, which is double the 800 series version. You get 4Mb instead of 2Mb (or 1Mb per core and 2Mb per core)...
I personally would pay the extra money and get the D915 version for a few pounds more, but if it is not available then this CPU is just as good......

As a gamer, I needed the best processor out there. Searching around, the only real debate in this price range was whether to go for the E6850, a dual core CPU, or the Q6600, a quad core at a lower clock. After looking at many different benchmarks and... more
