The UltraSPARC T1 processor with CoolThreads technology is the highest-throughput and most eco-responsible processor ever created. It's a breakthrough discovery for reducing data center energy consumption, while dramatically increasing throughput. Until now, two threads per core or two cores per processor were the best you could get for mainstream, commercial computing. The UltraSPARC T1, with its onboard memory subsystem, changes everything. The UltraSPARC T1 processor gives you up to eight processing cores with four threads per core. It's like a rack of servers on one chip. With up to 32 simultaneous threads in one incredibly low-power, low-heat processor, you gain the high-volume throughput you need, while saving millions on power and cooling costs.
Advantages: Cheap entry level Sun SPARC from 1997 Disadvantages: Build quality is PC like, and low cache processors
...The SunUltraSPARC 5 workstation was brought out in 1997, and was priced so you could have one on your desk for approx 1000 US Dollars. They stopped shipping to customers in May 2002. These days, it is not a fast machine, but still they are perfectly useable for many workstation and server tasks.
Processor and Memory -
This model has an UltraSPARC IIi processor which is, of course, 64 bit and is clocked at 360 MHz. You can have 1GB of memory in the workstation, installed as up to 4 DIMMS, which must be installed in pairs. "Normal" PC memory will not work in these workstations. The 260MHz model only has 256kB cache (same with the 270MHz processor) For better performance, you need the 2MB cache version on the 333 or 400MHz versions.
Storage -
There is one HDD bay in the machine, although if you remove the floppy drive, you can put...

Advantages: BETTER PERFORMANCE/ RELIABILITY Disadvantages: A LITTLE LOUDER ON THE FAN/COOLING
...I HAVE BEEN USING PENTIUM PROCESSORS FOR MANY YEARS NOW AND HAVE FOUND THEM TO BE BOTH RELIABLE AND GOOD AT WHAT THEY DO. I HAVE RECENTLY UP-GRADED TO A NEW PENTIUM III 450 HTZ PROCESSOR AND I AM VERY IMPRESSED BY IT'S PERFORMANCE. I THOUGHT LONG AND HARD BEFORE BUYING MY NEW MACHINE AND LOOKED AT THE DIFFERENT PROCESSORS AVAILABLE ON THE MARKET. I SOUGHT ADVICE FROM FRIENDS AND COLLEAGUES WITH OTHER PROCESSORS AND DECIDED TO STICK WITH THE PENTIUM. I CAN HEARTILY RECCOMMEND IT FOR SPEED AND RELIABILITY. COMBINED WITH 128M R.A.M AND A DECENT GRAPHICS BOARD I NOW HAVE A TOP-NOTCH SYSTEM. I HAVE HALVED MY PROCESSING TIME SINCE BUYING THE NEW P111....

This is my second Toshiba Satellite. Until recently I have been using a slightly dated but very effective Toshiba Satellite L10-114. Having recently purchased this new one though, I have to say there is a substantial improvement over my old lap top.... more
This is the first time I have ever done a review on anything, so I hope this is of some use to someone. I have just recently (within the last month) splashed out on one of these and since no-one else has done so yet, I thought I would share my... more
