Hi, I thought I would tell you about this pump. I hope you find it useful and would appreciate your feedback.
************WHY************ Ok, well the reason I got this pump was basically because I really fancied having a beautiful focal point in my garden. I have been to other peoples gardens who have a water feature and always thought there is nothing nicer than relaxing in the garden with a cold drink as you listen to the gentle sound of trickling water in the background. So I thought this would be ideal and not too expensive.
**********COST*********** I bought this on-line and paid £25.99 which I do think is pretty ok. Beware if you are looking to buy this as the price really can vary from shop to shop. I think the dearest I saw was £39.99 (BIG DIFFERENCE) NOTE - This is only the pump and not the bowl (if you want to have a bird bath), but is all you need for a pond. As for any other costs - there aren't any !!!! Because it is a solar powered pump you have no running costs.
***********HOW DOES IT WORK ?*********** This is a really straight forward pump. It is really only for outdoor use as it runs by solar power energy. When it arrived I was so excited and went straight to work to put it together (yes I know, I did say me!!!). A sixteen foot cable comes with the pump, so I was able to place the pump in a partially shaded area of the garden but run the cable to a sunny area to place the solar panel there. This meant that I was able to maximise the direct sunlight exposure. You really must put the panel in direct sunlight, if you don't you only get sporadic water flow. Even a cloud will cause it to quit running. Also a major plus to me (and probably the only reason I was able to assemble this myself) there are no tools required! How easy is that! The kit comes complete with three heads for different heights and the maximum height is advertised at about 10 inches high, personally I would say more around 7 inches.
****************SPECIFICATIONS********** Now for the necessary technical details. Size is small but great for my garden which is medium in size - 9-1/4" H x 3" W x 4"D It comes in Black and is made of High Grade Plastic, Ceramic and Metal (boring I know). This is perfect for what I wanted which was to add a little something to the garden but not too over powering. I got a 2 year manufacturer warranty which for the price I must say I was more than happy with.
**************OVERALL************* Yes I am happy with it. It has like all things in life, pro's & con's to it. But this is my first water feature so I am not comparing it to a previous one. I do think next time I will get one that has a backup battery. However saying that, I love the fact that this is environmentally safe and friendly. Also I do like the fact that it recycles the water – no need for an extra external supply. A problem I did find was that the smaller holed head did get clogged from dropped debris from an overhanging tree, but I simply changed it to the larger-holed head and problem was solved. To me I do fell this is a great product at a great price. So if like me you just want to sit back and make the most of this beautiful sunshine in a relaxing environment in your garden, then yes this is definately for you. Also I am delighted that there are electrical connections as I have a young child.
