When this first came out on the market I though it sounded too good to be true but seeing as I managed to get my hands on a free sample of the stuff I was eager to give it a go – imagine if it lived up to expectations – my hair would love me forever!
A friend got a load of samples and offered me some – this being one of them – she never reveals her sources so I can’t pass it on I’m afraid but she is quite handy to know! The sachet I received contained 10ml and showed a picture of the bottle on the front – it looked like a good sign – its purple!
I found that 10ml was enough for two uses on my hair which is almost halfway down my back but not especially thick. How much you need is of course a personal thing and will vary depending on individual hair length and thickness, etc.
The product claimed to be able to give me instantly smooth and sleek, soft and shiny hair and be for hair prone to kinks or frizz. Well, I’m definitely in that category. I usually straighten my hair with my beloved GHD’s a quite swipe and its pretty much done but left to its own devices, my hair is quite fond of being a bit wild and very kinky – these turn to ringlets in the rain if left to do its own thing – strange I know…
Anyway, as this product was to be left in – I could imagine smooth sleek locks not being far away so I read on…
Whilst reading the back of the sachet, I was asked – ‘do you kinks and frizz mean you’re stuck between straight and curly, neither on or the other?’ er…yes!
It then shows two ‘pictures’ (well more drawings really) of before and after use:
Before – shows kinky/frizzy hair After – shows straight, sleek hair
The claim is that it’s the smoothing cream blow dry effect. Just what I had in mind…
The directions were to rub 1 or 2 walnut sized amounts of instant smoothing cream into your hands. Smooth onto wet or dry hair. Leave in and style, and hey presto - hair is instantly smooth.
Hmm… really is sounding too good to be true isn’t it? Probably because it is…
I was cautious about how much I put onto my hands in the first place, knowing full well that you can add more but can’t take any away. I do think that a walnut sized blob to start off with is being a bit generous but like I said, it’s really up to the individual to judge depending on their hair – but you have been warned.
The cream itself is white and has a good consistency although it is slightly greasy to touch. It also smells really nice – a bit like the sort of product you’d get in a salon but a with a fruitier edge to the smell. Finding this quite a hopeful sign I carried on.
I personally decided to use it on towel-dried hair as didn’t want to risk it weighing my hair down by applying it when it was dry as I know it wouldn’t have worked and would probably have just left it lank.
I then started to dry with the hairdryer. This wasn’t an easy task in itself – it took twice as long as normal to dry it and left my hair feeling slightly greasy to touch, although it didn’t actually look greasy.
The overall effect after drying was worth laughing at. I had the odd straight bit but it was mainly kinky with the odd ringlet – just for effect. I looked like something out of an eighties tribute band (okay so it probably wasn’t that bad but it was amusing). On the plus side though it did get rid of any frizz that might have been lurking but did leave it very kinky – probably slightly more so than normal to be honest as my hair will usually flatten itself out. After using this product it seemed to hold the kinks into position although it still gave me good movement and didn’t hold like a gel would.
My hair was left shiny – but this was probably partly due to the fact that it felt greasy and it wasn’t really any more shiny than my hair is naturally anyway to be honest.
Not wanting to leave the house looking like an eighties throwback I decided to straighten it. Unfortunately this wasn’t an easy task either. My much loved GHD’s which usually do the job in one swoop hated this stuff being on my hair and I had to go over the same parts three or four times to get rid of the kinks. It did manage to reduce the greasiness for me though but left my hair feeling slightly coarse and not as manageable as normal.
Interested at how Lever Faberge perceived this product I decided to have a look on their website – www.leverfaberge.co.uk as I couldn’t find one specifically for Sunsilk.
I was informed that this new range of shampoos and conditioners, etc was based on a deep understanding of the problems women have with their hair and the emotions that apparently trigger these problems.
They say that they talked to their target customers (even though they forget to mention who their ‘target customers’ actually are) and claim that Sunsilk aims to redefine the rules that currently exist in the hair category. They then reckon that they did consumer research.
Sunsilk still claims to be able to move beyond talking about hair types to talking about specific hair problems that are addressed through clearly differentiated variants. Globally, Sunsilk is one of the most popular haircare brands – it is currently a market leading product throughout Asia Pacific and Latin America. They also researched European women’s haircare needs in 2003and say that this work established a real demand in Europe for the benefits that Sunsilk offers.
There was also a link to another website www.perfectdayformula.co.uk which gives more blurb about how wonderful Sunsilk is and tells you all the great things that it can do for your hair – I wonder who they actually did research with then?
Personally, I won’t be buying this even if it is reasonably priced and will last between 25 – 50 uses. The only time I can see this product coming in handy is if I was going to an eighties revival party – and I don’t have one planned. Never mind…
I found that this product could be bought along with the shampoo and conditioner in the same range from Asda at £1.67 – all products available in 200ml bottles at this price.

I wonder if I should contact them and let them know how wrong they got it and ask them why they didn’t research the product through normal people who’d use it – like me?
Advantages: Makes your style after drying stay in for MUCH longer Disadvantages: Can feel a bit heavy if not put on wet hair
...back of every bottle of Sunsilk Instant Smoothing Cream. Well, that sums up my hair pretty much, which is why I decided to buy it. ***The Product***
It’s a leave in cream that’s meant to smooth your hair of kinks and frizziness, and leave you with “Instantly smooth and sleek, soft and shiny hair”.
I first knew of it by getting a free sample in magazine, and I tried it, but it didn’t really do much good, because you can imagine the small silly amount ... ...to match the range of sunsilk products for ‘hair prone to kinks and frizz’ and is very noticeable (you won’t lose it). The lid is similar to one of those sports bottle lids, so it just pops up to reveal a hole for the cream to come through, then to seal it again you push it down. No lost tops, no mess!
***Price and availability***
I bought mine from Wilkinsons (The Best Shop In The World – see my separate review hehe), at £1.67. At the moment, ...

Advantages: Works well, smells good, reasonably priced Disadvantages: None
...My latest buy is Sunsilk Instant Smoothing Cream, which is a leave-in conditioner promising to give your hair the four S's - sleek, smooth, soft and shiny, with the help of silk proteins (hydrolysed silk). Sunsilk has been around for a long time, although they are a lot more successful in Asia than it is in Britain. They are gradually expanding their range and making quite a name for themselves as a decent brand. Sunsilk is probably the cheapest ... ...unless it's important, but the Sunsilk one really caught my eye. It's a metallic purple colour and compared to the usual bland pastel and white bottles, it definitely stands out! The instructions advises applying two walnut-sized amounts of the conditioner onto hair, but I have no idea what size walnuts are (!) - one 2 pound coin sized blob is enough for my hair. the bottle is enough for my long, thick hair. The smell is quite strong, and unusual ...

Advantages: Smoothes hair, nice smell Disadvantages: doesn't work well on dry hair
...used the products from the Sunsilk range and to be completely honest I didn't think much of them. Sunsilk have quite a few products, shampoo, condioners that claim to tame frizzy hair, and as I have seriously frizzy hair I just had to try them. It didn't work!
However a few days ago, a sample sachet of the Sunsilk Instant Smoothing Cream was popped through my letter box and I thought I give it a go.
The difference with this product is that it is ... ...first I thought my hair would perhaps feel too heavy with this is in, but I still gave it a go.
~~THE PACKAGING~~
As this was a sample I cannot give a full description of the packaging, but on the sachet there is a little picture of the conditioner, so It gives you an idea if you was to purchase it.
The bottle is a light purple colour, with a nozzle so you can squeeze out the contents.
On the middle of the bottle, 'SATIN PROTEINS', is written, ...

Advantages: Smoothes, straightens and removes frizz. Disadvantages: None
Sunsilk instant smoothing cream, does exactly what it says on the bottle! If, like me, you want a quick fix to that annoying frizzy topped head - look no further. I'd tried a few different products, including the anti-frizz liquid sprays, but all they did was make my hair static and greasy, and didn't even cure the problem I was trying to tackle. All I wanted was to straighten and control my thick hair, and tame the mad crazy frizz at the top. For ... ...Then a lovely looking purple bottle practically lept off the shelf at me, claiming to give silky, straight and frizz-free hair, with the help of satin and protein. It was £2.19 for a 200ml bottle, which I thought was pretty good value, providing it did the job. The next morning, after I'd brushed my hair, I opened the squeezy cap - you simply lift the top to squeeze out the liquid, then click it back down - it couldn't be easier. I squeezed out a ...

Advantages: works well as a leave-in conditioner Disadvantages: smells vile, not very effective
...it. When I stumbled upon Sunsilk Instant Smoothing Cream, I was delighted, because I thought I had found a light, non-greasy product that would tame my hair without weighing it down.
My first impression was quite positive. At about £1.99, it was certainly affordable. I liked the purple bottle; it kind of looks like a bottle of washing up liquid, with a top that you pull to open (sorry about the clumsy description!!). On its back, the manufacturer ... ...will be instantly smooth anywhere at anytime.
As I squeezed the product into my palm, the first thing that hit me was the smell - I can't truly describe it, though 'pungent' would be a pretty adequate word to use. Nevertheless, I was willing to suffer smelling like an ageing playboy who has been a bit too eager with the Old Spice, for the sake of having presentable hair. Right?
WRONG. About an hour after the application (a walnut-sized amount on ...

Advantages: Makes you hair straigher and sleeker Disadvantages: None
...the guy from the Ronseal ads, it does exactly what is says on the tin, oops, sorry bottle!
It also smells nice and washes out easily. Some shampoos can feel like it hasn't washed out and makes you stand in the shower for an extra 10 mins while you figure out if it's gone or not, but this is not like that at all.
There is also a conditioner available under the same name "Sunsilk Silky & Straight" along with a 24/7 instantsmoothingcream, which I haven't used and therefore can't comment on. The conditioner however probably adds to the whole smoother effect as I never use the shampoo on it's own.
On the whole, I would recommend this Sunsilk shampoo and conditioner to anyone with kinky or frizzy hair. I'm not promising miracles, but if you're hair's normally quite out of control like mine, then it will make it a lot better.
It can be...

Advantages: None Disadvantages: Turns your hair into a greasy, thick mess! You wont want to be seen!
...I have been addicted to Sunsilk’s Silky and Straight 24/7 instantsmoothing leave in cream since I first used it. Whenever I’ve had to go a day with out, I’ll look in the mirror and see a girl staring back at me with hair that looks frizzy and to be frank, a mess! (Well, compared to how great it looks when I’ve used the product!) I am not embarrassed to say, I am completely in love with it!
I’m currently trying to grow my hair. I have long hair anyway, but after having my hair cut - badly! (Don’t ever even consider paying Supercuts a visit, that’s unless you want to leave in tears, of course!?) I miss my LONG locks and am determined to work that look again! I had my hair cut in the first place because I had been just slightly addicted to my new hair straighteners and in return, I had received lots of horrid, white, split ends! (Not...
