Nevertheless this present has proved to be a blessing. I hate wearing gloves whilst doing housework , but it is a must when your hands are in and out of soapy water, etc. Incidentally I use disposable gloves when I clean the actual toilet area. Yes I know it sounds horrid, but I feel keeping toilets clean is one of the most important parts of my job. Well it's not really a job, I "do" for three lovely elderly people, who can no longer regularly do their housework and garden themselves.
Sorry, I digress, lets get back to the gloves. They are called "Super Glove" and I have found this title very apt as they are the most comfortable gloves I have ever worn. Usually I find that rubber gloves have a horrible smell (stays on your hands for ages), have fingers long enough for an octupus so that you have difficulty picking things up and no matter which size you get never really fit properly.
The "Super Glove" has none of these drawbacks; I must admit they have a feint rubbery smell when you first open the packet, but that soon disappears and inside the glove there is no smell at all. These gloves are the first ones I have used where the fingers don't turn over at least an inch at the top; you can actually pick things up with them!
Now for the insides; well, they are superb, having a soft velvety-type lining made of viscose. They are so comfortable, I find my hands keep cool and there is not that awful hot, sticky claustrophobic feeling where you can't wait to get them off.
On the pack they say that they are "formulated for increased strength and durability, and greater resistance to household detergents". I have been using the first pair of these now for over two months and found this to be very true. They have stayed exactly as they were when they came out of the pack, no stains, no tears or shown any signs of perishing. I have followed their instructions for the care of their gloves, which is "rinse and dab dry after use. Store away from direct sunlight and heat", and this seems to work well.
The variable mauve coloured pack has a "gentle" feel, with a woman's face looking somewhat relaxed and in love. Well that's how I see it!!
There is the word "Skincare" in large white letters and "Sensitive skin velvet" underneath, which in my opinion says it all. Below this is "Hypoallergenic - Dermatologically Tested" and "Recommended as an alternative for people allergic to natural rubber proteins and chemical accelerators". Incidentally I am lucky and suffer none of the above so I honestly cannot say that this is the case.
On the reverse of the pack is a handy size guide which measures your hand for Large, Medium and Small. It worked for me as the Medium size was a perfect fit.
As these were bought for me I am not certain where they came from, but I suspect it is one of the large wholesalers such as Makro or Matalan, where I know the purchaser frequents. They are supplied by BM Polyco Limited, Great Cambridge Industrial Estate, Lincoln Road, Enfield EN1 1SH, who I am sure will be happy to give the names of outlets for this product.
They came in a pack of six at a price of £3.49, (58p each). The pack I was given were a Summer Clearance price of £2.61, just over 43p each.
Conclusion ========= I would highly recommend these PVC Household Gloves, they are extremely comfortable to wear, hard wearing, and resistant to household detergents. At a price of around £3.49 for six they are well worth a try.
Advantages: A good quality product that is durable. Disadvantages: None.
Rubber gloves are not on my list of favourite things to buy, I rarely wear them for anything else other cleaning drains or unblocking sink traps.
But saying that I always keep a pair in my cupboard for dealing with those unforeseen emergencies.
Getting the right type of rubber gloves can be tricky, some are so flimsy that they tear on their first outing, others can be so thick that you cannot feel your fingers and if you manage to buy the right ... ...woman than I am.
The cheap rubber gloves are very hit and miss, they invariably have no lining and will end up damaging the skin on your hands. I find that the supermarket own brands often make my hands sweat so when I take the glove off my skin looks wrinklier than ever.
Pay a little more for a pair of rubber gloves and you seem to get better sizing, fitting, maybe a flock lining and a decent weight everyday rubber glove.
