surprise that the brilliant racing game would make it onto Nintendo's powerful new handheld Game Boy Advance. And rest assured the game clearly takes full advantage of the graphic power and speed of the GBA. But this version owes more to the seminalSuper Mario Karton the SNES in that it doesn't use the 3D environments of the N64 version.Still, Nintendo's expertise at sucking players into the game world is strongly evident, andMario Kart Advanceoffers enough challenges to keep players, both young and old, entertained. Placing a familiar Nintendo personality, such as Mario, Luigi and even the mushroom man behind the wheel of a sputtering go-kart powered by a 50, 100, or 150-cc engine, the game lets players race computerised opponents or up to four other players (via a cable) on a variety of well-designed tracks. Multiplayer is the key toMario Kart, and though you'll need four cartridges for the full multiplayer experience there are some limited options for four-way play from a single cartridge.Because karts lack the power and speed of games (and let's face it you aren't in it for theGran Turismo 3adrenalin-pumped experience), drivers must focus on collecting power-ups and non-lethal weapons, such as the snowball and minimiser, rather than negotiating hairpin turns on two wheels. Grabbing and using on-track items is the heart of the game's fun: a strategically placed banana peel sends the unlucky victim into a spin, nailing an opponent with a turtle shell launches their vehicle skyward, and a rocket provides a quick boost to near-breakneck speeds.--Kristen Bowditch

When Super Mario Kart was released in 1993 over in the UK it went on to become a favourite of mine as well as with those whom I frequently played the game with. However, it wasn't until 2005 that I had managed to acquire the game for myself. During that time I had it on and off with this game but never did I lose that feel for Super Mario Kart - and I doubt I will.
What is neat about this racing game is the way characteristics from the Super Mario series have been put into gear here. For starters, there are eight recognisable characters, paired off with varying performance traits to take to the tracks with. Then there are the Super Mario World themes running through each of the game's consistently well-designed courses (of which twenty makes for plenty); items as can be found in the Super Mario games to be picked up from question mark boxes during a race; and coins littered around the tracks which are not without their incentives either.
Apart from the likes of the well-known Invincibility Star theme, most of the music composed for Super Mario Kart is original. Each of the level themes have a different tune, and there isn't a track which I don't like. The music is played at a quicker speed on the final lap making it dramatic to great effect and the sound effects are pleasing to the ear.
The graphics in Super Mario Kart are rendered using Mode 7 texture mapping, so it feels like the racing is on a plane rather than say, on a (changing) background. That might be one way of putting it... Anyway, the game runs super-smoothly and I find the visuals - bold and colourful - are nice to look at. During play an external view is used allowing you see the action immediately around you though unusually the game opts for split-screen even in single player mode - the bottom half displaying either the map or the view behind - so there is no need to adjust (or make excuses) when playing against a friend.
Super Mario Kart is a simple game to pick-up and play. The controls are spot-on, with the shoulder buttons for hopping and powersliding being in the right place for developing a feel for the techniques vital to success in the game. There is a Time Trial mode (for the single player) for learning as well as for setting fast times, though there is an emphasis on course times because the laps are short, which works fine.
The other single player mode is the Mario Kart GP, also available for two - either way players race in a field of eight. The racing itself is fun and it's furious, without the items being over-the-top such that the races are down to luck. This mode certainly raised my expectations of a racing game, leaving me disappointed with the head-to-head modes that numerous others can only offer. Super Mario Kart does have a one-on-one mode (Match Race) though Mario Kart GP is the reason why I (and my brother) keep coming back to this game.
Yet the game does not go down the route of providing realistic computer A.I - not only do they solely utilise an item which may be exclusive to the character within their control, they also do not comply with the characters performances instead racing along in almost set positions, along a racing line. However, it manages to cough up racing incidents as well as provide the competition. Whether two players work together (or not) to unlock the special challenges rather than with one player alone, the one- and two-player modes feel slightly uneven - perhaps intended to address such foreseen imbalances, though these are minimal and pose no problems.
I've completed the game numerous times but Super Mario Kart provides enough of a challenge to require of me a top-drawer performance to win. Changes in form can see you struggle to progress to the next race, to taking - and experiencing - the magnificent Rainbow Road on at full speed (never letting go of that accelerator) whilst staying on the circuit. Super Mario Kart is not a game that is full of surprises - there is the odd shortcut - but it is a rewarding one because those patient enough to get to grips with the game's heavy characters will find them to be worth their weight.
The remaining mode is the Battle Mode which sees two players driving around on one of four battle courses attempting to take each other out using items in the game. This is definitely a fun enough diversion from Mario Kart GP for when you only have a few minutes to play.
I've played this game for so many years - evidence of how much I still love Super Mario Kart. Yes there have been and will be newer Mario Kart games, but are they as finely tuned as this one is? Unless they come up with a 4-player version of Super Mario Kart then I doubt it - this isn't a trip down memory lane, this is an example of near-perfect gaming.
Advantages: classic, overall great idea, Disadvantages: none
...X Box, the simple little Super Nintendo (known as SNES throughout this review) is keeping me highly entertained during the holidays. Apologies to those of you who think that writing an opinion on such an old product is pointless - but hey, the category is here and I might as well make use of it!
So, as the SNES addiction has got more noticeable over the past few days, Super Mario Kart has been something which I couldn't resist writing a review on. ... ...IS 'SUPER MARIO KART'?
Super Mario Kart is a simple, yet addictive, racing game, which puts your favourite Nintendo characters head to head at a go-karting park.
With 20 courses to play on in a variety of different ways, it's likely to keep you entertained for a while.

...Remembering this is for a Super Nintendo. They were by far the best for any racing game out at that time. As the game is a Mario, the game is all bright and cheerful. The multi-player for this game is great. You can either have a race or series of races. Just as most Racing games have. Or you can have a battle mode (by personal favorite!) There great fun. The basic concept is that you play inside a maze (sort off) and you drive around trying to run ... ...successfully run over one, and then get a weapon from a selection. The weapons are accessible through all the races and grand prix, but they have more of a meaning in the battle mode. Weapons range from the speed increasing mushrooms, to shells that follow your opponent. This game is great if you still have a SNES, and do not own this game I HIGHLY RECOMMEND it! ...

Advantages: So fun it's untrue! Disadvantages: That it is to fun & ppl aren't always available to play with!
One of the first games i bought for my SNES. Also one which sold very quickly when i was selling my games [am now kicking myself for doing that]. Even now i still get cravings for the two-player battle mode. i can still remember the satisfaction of someone slipping up on your 'wall' of banana skins & getting smacked by homing koopa shell. Surprisingly for such an old game there is huge room for strategy & cunning.
Even the normal racing mode is ... ...the excitement as you can compete with each other or help each other (yeah right!). Though depending on the difficulty you may have to make an alliance so you both qualify for the next round.
Variety
The races are themed and there are a variety of tracks for each theme, eg the beach races set in water or the tough 'Bowser' tracks where there are very sharp corners [yet also the best for ambushes with nana skins & on those straights fire those shells ...

...--The Game--
Super Mario Kart was released around the year 1995 and was one of the best racers around in it's day. The game features all the regular Super Mario characters including Super Mario, Luigi, Princess, Toadstool, Bowser and there's more but I can't remember them.
As for game modes you have an intersting championship mode where you compete for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place which will earn you a trophy and points. The higher you finish the more ... ...of fun.
Super Mario Kart is less serious than other racers and this makes it light hearted fun. The best bit about Super Mario Kart has to be the weapons which are fun to use. You get all types of weapons some which shrink all the other racers susequently slowing them down you can run over and squish them too if you really wanted too. You also get weapons like banana peels and bombs and loads more which I cannot remember and I apologize for this.

Advantages: Great driving game and simple Disadvantages: Old and outdated now
Super Mario Kart was an original fantastic driving game on the Super Nintendo. A tear almost comes to the eye as I think of the many evenings spent trying to beat the Japanese all-time records for some of the courses. The game was great because it was simple to control, incredibly addictive and yet took a very long time to get good at - all the ingredients of a fantastically addictive little game. To find the best routes on all of the tracks was ...

MarioKart Wii is a edition to the popular series of games, MarioKart. The game started way back in 1992, when SuperMarioKart for the SNES was released, a lot has changed but will MarioKart Wii be a great edition?
~~~ CONTROLS ~~~
In my opinion, the controls for MarioKart Wii are very simple. you hold down 2 on the Wii-mote to go, 1 is Brake/Drift. turn the Wii-mote to stear, up on the D-pad to throw and item forwards and down to throw it back. If you choose a Manual car, you hold down B/1 to drift.
~~~ CHARACTERS ~~~
I think that MKW has lots of characters that you can play as, and that It's good if racing games have lots of characters you can play as, these characters are:
Mario
Luigi
Peach
Daisy
Bowser
Dry Bowser
Dry Bones
Donkey Kong
Funky Kong
Mii

Advantages: Great online play, fun Disadvantages: Powerups are better if you are towards the back of the race
--Introduction--
The original MarioKart first appeared on the Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES) back in the early 1990's. Since then, Nintendos famous plumber and his gang have appeared on every Nintendo format and now its time for them to make their appearance on the Wii. For those of you new to the series, MarioKart consists of racing over 32 tracks which are broken down into batches of 4, meaning there are 8 cups to win. These cups exist at 3 levels, namely 50cc (easy), 100cc (medium), 150cc (hard), for the first time in a MarioKart game you are able to ride motorcycles adding a new dimension to the game. Also a first is the introduction of online play which really brings the game on.

Advantages: Fun, easy to play, great multiplayer Disadvantages: Not as good as Super Mario Kart, Kooper Trooper has been removed :(
When I first saw this game advertised on the TV I was tempted to buy an N64 just for it, the original SuperMarioKart on the SNES had been an extremely addictive game and one of the best games I had ever played. I didn't buy an N64 though and instead waited a while and played the game on someone elses console.
--What is it?--
MarioKart 64 is a remake of SuperMarioKart for the SNES, it tries to improve just about everything about the game from the graphics to the weapons to the playability but ends up making a number of things worse instead.
The idea of the game is that you select a Mario character who is then put into a racing kart, you have to race these around tracks using a variety of weapons and powerups to try and prevent your opponents from winning rather than having to rely on racing skill alone. The game goes a lot ...
