I'll try and review this game as best as I can although I got this when I was 5 years old so I won't remember every last detail but I'll do my best.
--The Game--
Super Mario Kart was released around the year 1995 and was one of the best racers around in it's day. The game features all the regular Super Mario characters including Super Mario, Luigi, Princess, Toadstool, Bowser and there's more but I can't remember them.
As for game modes you have an intersting championship mode where you compete for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place which will earn you a trophy and points. The higher you finish the more points you get. You'll get Gold for 1st place Silver for 2nd place and Bronze for 3rd. These come along with fantastic circuits featuring a mud level, snow level and an all out tarmac level (my personal favourite) Oh yeah and a Space One too. There's more circuits but once again I can't remeber them. You also get a Time Trial mode where you try to get your fastest time possible. You can play this in multiplayer too which can be a lot of fun. For me this has to be the core of the game as with mates you can have a lot of fun.
Super Mario Kart is less serious than other racers and this makes it light hearted fun. The best bit about Super Mario Kart has to be the weapons which are fun to use. You get all types of weapons some which shrink all the other racers susequently slowing them down you can run over and squish them too if you really wanted too. You also get weapons like banana peels and bombs and loads more which I cannot remember and I apologize for this.
--My Verdict--
The reasons for me not remembering all that much about this is not that it's forgettable but I sold my SNES a few years ago along with this tiltle because the SNES had become obsolete. If you have a SNES and you know somebody selling this it would be well worth buying but don't expect top of the range graphics and sound this is the SNES after all. It's a bit cheaper than mainstream titles of nowadays but you can get Crash Nitro Kart on your PS2 or XBOX and if you have a Gamecube don't bother. Super Mario Kart is on the Gamecube and I bet it's really good. So if you like old skool titles this is for you. The graphics were too bright in my opinion and as for the sound that is truly awful. Dire music blasting away and bright graphics could make you want to throw up and unfortunately you can't turn the music off. However the car noises are good. As for the gameplay that's simple and easy to get use to but I can't remember the gamepad all that well. So if you want a game that will entertain you for a short while at a cheap price it's staring you in the face arcade thrills is all about you'll get from this. But to be honest these sort of titles are very hard to come by now so you're lucky if you'll be able to get your'e hands on this one. In my Specific Criteria I'm going to rate it as it would look today as I want to give you the best verdict I can. The bottom line is you'll find far better looking titles out there now like Crash Nitro Kart and Super Mario Kart on Gamecube and if you're a real hardcore racer I'm sure you'd opt for something like Gran Turismo or Project Gotham instead. 5/10. Thanks for reading. John Mitchell

There's a Mario Kart: Double Dash game for the GameCube but no Super Mario Kart.

Mario Kart 64was one of the finest games released for the Nintendo 64 platform so it's no ... more
surprise that the brilliant racing game would make it onto Nintendo's powerful new handheld Game Boy Advance. And rest assured the game clearly takes full advantage of the graphic power and speed of the GBA. But this version owes more to the seminalSuper Mario Karton the SNES in that it doesn't use the 3D environments of the N64 version.Still, Nintendo's expertise at sucking players into the game world is strongly evident, andMario Kart Advanceoffers enough challenges to keep players, both young and old, entertained. Placing a familiar Nintendo personality, such as Mario, Luigi and even the mushroom man behind the wheel of a sputtering go-kart powered by a 50, 100, or 150-cc engine, the game lets players race computerised opponents or up to four other players (via a cable) on a variety of well-designed tracks. Multiplayer is the key toMario Kart, and though you'll need four cartridges for the full multiplayer experience there are some limited options for four-way play from a single cartridge.Because karts lack the power and speed of games (and let's face it you aren't in it for theGran Turismo 3adrenalin-pumped experience), drivers must focus on collecting power-ups and non-lethal weapons, such as the snowball and minimiser, rather than negotiating hairpin turns on two wheels. Grabbing and using on-track items is the heart of the game's fun: a strategically placed banana peel sends the unlucky victim into a spin, nailing an opponent with a turtle shell launches their vehicle skyward, and a rocket provides a quick boost to near-breakneck speeds.--Kristen Bowditch
