When i had my beloved Nintendo Wii "i had so much fun" using it and one of my favourite games indeed was this one. I had played Mario games on other systems such as the Nintendo 64 and the Dream Cast but Mario Sunshine left me frustrated and ready to throw the darn Dream Cast out the window because i got so far in it then i just couldn't get past one particular level "no matter how hard" that i tried and Super Mario 64 was brilliant but i never got round to finishing it. When i got my Nintendo Wii last Christmas, i was so excited about getting it and i had picked a few particular games one of them being the brilliant Sims Castaway. I have always loved The Sims games so for the first while although Super Mario Galaxy was sitting there i hardly ever used it. After my brother's reminding me for the hundreth time how good it was supposed to be. I decided it was time to give it a try. I must say at the beginning i was less than enthusiastic and was ready to be cracking up and very irritated by it because Mario Sunshine almost drove me mad. I have to say i was pleasantly surprised because this was actually brilliant and quite addictive too. I found myself up at 4 am in the morning still unable to stop playing it.

CONTROLS, GRAPHICS, FINDING YOUR WAY ABOUT AND EVERYTHING ELSE.

The controls were easy to use and the only time that i remember them being particularly hard to use was in levels such as The Rolling Gizmo Galaxy. In this you had to balance Mario on top of a ball and get Mario around the level without falling of the edge. This reminded me of the Super Monkey Ball games. The controller had to be moved corresponding with the way that you needed it to and this involved tilting the controller. This was probably the only thing that i didn't like about the game because its another one of those levels like in Mario Sunshine that had me wanting to throw the "Wii out the window. It was a nightmare and the music for the level in question was extremely irritating and reminded me of clown music you would hear at a circus. After playing this level over and over about a hundred times before completing it..

I was surprised that i wasn't rocking back and forth in a straight jacket. It was very frustrating and there was a few levels like it . So if you haven't got much patience and are looking to make your way through the whole game this could prove to be rather annoying. However if you are looking a challenging game then this is certainly the one for you. You need to use the Wii remote and Nunchuck for this and it is simple enough to do. You will use the Wii remote for the star pointer quite a bit this can be seen the whole way throughout the game and it shows the position of were your Wii remote is pointing. It is controlled by the Wii remote and is quite easy to use. There are different forms of transport and getting around the levels. One of those is the pull stars which are above Mario at certain areas and you click them to reach from one point to the next. You have to do this relatively quick otherwise you will either fall and croak it or be back to the beginning again.

Which believe me is highly irritating "especially" if you have dodged a lot of obstacles in order to get there and been ever so careful. Once you get further on you will also gain many other means of transport. These include the ability to fly and the ability to walk on water(this turns to ice) for limited amounts of time. The main place is The Comet Observatory which you will see a lot of. This is were you start of and also were you return to once you exit or complete a level. It is beautiful and thankfully the music wont drive you insane either. The music used in it "is miles apart" from the irritating excuse for music used in that Rolling Gizmo fiasco. This has six circular shaped areas and each one gives you access to the levels in the game. There is quite a lot of places in this area to explore and it is my favourite part. This is similar to the other Mario games in the sense that "the more power stars" you collect. The more levels will become available to you. The only difference being that in this you are opening up new galaxy's.You just travel from one area to the next based on which part you need to access. You can run or walk, i always preferred to run because obviously its a lot quicker.

I am a very impatient person any way and when i opened up new parts i was especially enthusiastic to get there, fast! I found it very simple getting around each part and there was different things such as the library (you go here to get read story's) The story's are based on the game and a new chapter opens up as you further progress. I also remember a kitchen and a lot of other well designed parts. The graphics are great, i don't know overly much about graphics. So i am afraid that is the best way that i can describe them but the levels and character all look brilliant and i think that The Comet Observatory is especially stunning. The surroundings are pleasant. I have always liked space and stars so i particularly liked it and when not irritated by certain levels actually found it rather relaxing. After doing some research on it i found that it had sold 8.02 million copies worldwide. I think this speaks for its self as to how popular it is. It was the second best selling non - bundled Nintendo Wii game and the sixth best-selling Nintendo published - Wii game.

The plot for this is good and it is quite interesting to watch it unfold as you get further up in the levels. The plot begins with Princess Peach inviting Mario to The Star Festival to celebrate a comet. Then evil bowzer shows up in The mushroom kingdom and wreaks havoc. He rips peaches castle from the ground and carry's it off with her into the depths of outer space. Mario try's unsuccessfully to rescue her. As all Mario players will be aware of who have seen the plots of the games in the past. Peach is the damsel in distress and Mario always try's to save her. After his first failed attempt he sets out again on his mission to rescue her from the evil grasp of Bowzer but will he? He has to regain the stolen power stars so that Rosalina'a mobile observatory can travel once again. The library also has a lot to do with the plot and as you progress in the game you will see more and more chapters will be opened up and when they are they will be read to you by Rosalina. If you choose. If you cant be bothered you can just skip the library LOL

This game is not easy and i am surprised i had the patience to complete it fully. I have never completed a full game in my life. This shows that this must of kept me very intrigued and interested because if i hadn't been i simply wouldn't have done. I believe it was also partially the discouraging attitude of my brothers who said "if they couldn't beat it" that i certainly wasn't going to because they consider themselves game experts. So off course that made me more determined to beat it just to annoy them . When i was playing the rather irritating Gizmo Galaxy my brothers laughed and said they could beat it in a second. Knowing how hard the level was and that they wouldn't. I willingly and smugly passed the controls over to them. It was quite fun to watch them and their reactions as they failed miserably "one attempt after the other" because they had laughed so much at me when i couldn't. When i finally did beat the level and they found out they were not one bit happy and cleared off upstairs in a huff.

They still maintained that i would not have the patience to complete the game fully and one of them said that he knew me and that with my impatience i simply wouldn't last for the whole game. So when i finally beat the game i was jumping up and down and saying yay! That may seem like a over reaction but after all the hours spent trying to beat it. I assure you that you would be too. This lasted quite a long time there was plenty of levels and because it was difficult it lasted even longer because some nights i just got so frustrated with it. I was like that's bloody it! Then i went on up to bed because since i was playing it all

day and all night that was the next step. The hungry Lumas are adorable little floating creatures. Who when you point your Wii remote at them gobble up all the star bits. If you give them the amount which they are asking for. They will then be very satisfied and burst with happiness transforming into another place which you can go to access more levels.

In this game the power ups can make him do many different and cool things. The special mushrooms can cause him to become a bee and can also give him a spring suit, or a ghost (also known as a boo) The spring suit means that he can jump to places he couldn't reach minus it and the bee outfit means that he can latch onto particular walls, walk on flowers, hover through the air and it means that he can walk on clouds too. The Boo (ghost) uniform means he can become transparent, pass through walls and other things and that he can float. There is also a Fire Flower and a Ice flower. The fire flower allows Mario to shoot fireballs for a limited amount of time and The Ice Flower creates sheets of ice which cover certain areas meaning that he can walk on them. This also means that he can skate on icy surfaces and over lava. There is also a invincible star meaning that he can beat lots of enemies at once. This also makes him run faster.

This also has a co-operative two-player option called "Co Star Mode" in this player one controls Mario and a Star Pointer and the other controls a second Star Pointer and gathers up star bits to shoot at enemies. The first player's Star Pointer is blue in colour were as the second player's Star Pointer is yellow. The first player can collect star bits as well at certain points but the second player can shoot star bits without any limit.. The second player can make Mario jump, or cause him to jump quite a bit higher. This is done by the first and second player press the A button at the same time. The second player's star pointer is also able to be aimed at enemies to stop them by holding the A button, which results in stopping them from moving. This is not my favourite part i don't overly like the co - operative option i find it a lot better to play the game alone. If you are playing in this mode you do not need a second Nunchuck.

MY OPINION

This although slightly frustrating at points is "one of the best " game's that i have ever played. It is a lot of fun in most parts and each level is beautifully designed. The hungry Lumas are one of my favourite parts they are so cute and make such adorable noises when you shoot star bits at them. This is challenging and keeps you motivated and determined to progress into the next stages of the game. I love all of the characters and their phrases. I would definitely recommend this if you think you will have the patience for it. Even my mum loved it and she ended up playing it after i did. I would often come in and find her playing it and was often left missing my Nintendo Wii because she was so addicted to it. This game takes a lot of patience and time. If you try to rush levels like The rolling Gizmo Galaxy you will be there forever and a day still trying to beat it. I got so angry because of how irritating and hard to beat it was at one point and when i stopped trying really hard and relaxed a bit. I ended up beating it much to my irritation of course.

FAVOURITE PARTS

  • Mario and his phrases like in all his other games such as yippee and wohooo when he jumped into the air.
  • All of the characters mainly Peach, Luigi and Mario off course. Oh and the hungry Lumas and The Toad Brigade.
  • The beautiful Comet Observatory and the music played while your there.
  • Sound effects in general

WORST PARTS

  • That awful Rolling Gizmo Galaxy
  • The terrible clown music played on The Rolling Gizmo galaxy level.

My boyfriend finished this game a couple of weeks ago and he seemed to really enjoy it, although I gather that he got rather frustrated by parts of it as well! Great review x
