This is my first ever game review, for a game I feel rather strongly about. Please forgive me if I'm echoing the views of other reviewers.
I was first introduced to Super Paper Mario after watching a YouTube review of the game, which was arguably written and presented by a Mario fanboy. Even after playing just one level of the game, they saw fit to give it 10/10.
Being skeptical about the review and the rating was probably the main reason I bought a Wii, and consequently the game.
GAMEPLAY ---------------- Super Paper Mario is an RPG, which - even if you're not familiar with the original Paper Mario - is immediately evident, because of the dialogue. Synonymous with many RPGs, the gameplay is very slow compared to other Mario games. Most of the time you'll be moving around the levels at a painfully slow pace, trying to figure out what to do or where to go next.
SPM brings innovation to the table; probably the most talked about feature is Mario's ability to flip from 2D to 3D. There is some skill involved with using this ability, as in 3D you have a limited amount of time to move around. Many "secret" passages and items can be discovered with this ability if you know where to look, but more often the game requires you to use it to progress.
The box cover makes it painfully obvious that Princess Peach, Bowser and Luigi are playable characters, so it came as very little surprise when they were introduced.
One major gripe I have is with the items. The game has a large number of items available, ranging from health items, special attacks and status boosts. But, you can only carry 10 or so of these items. It is very easy to get saddled with the more useless items, but when your bag is full you're in two minds about which items to throw out.
Having said all those things, the game is unexpectedly easy to complete, with the bosses posing very little threat even the first time around.
CONTROLS ----------------- As mentioned, the game has a very slow pace compared to other Mario games. There isn't a 'run' button for any of the characters, meaning getting from A to B is usually painful (particularly as Bowser). You can speed up your movement, however, by using one of your Pixl characters later in the game. Or, on a few occasions, you can find an item that speeds the game up a little too much.
While the controls are straightforward and responsive enough, they were not as "slick" for me as some reviewers would have you believe. Occasionally you will have difficulty stopping on one-block platforms, and sometimes navigating in 3D, because the characters have trouble stopping. One thing I found frustrating was jumping on enemies; you bounce backwards off of them (and usually straight into something damaging). Though this happens in other Mario games with larger and stronger enemies, it happens with all enemies in SPM.
One of the worst casualties of the game's slow pace is the cut-scenes, or rather the ability to skip them. Many times I've been frustrated with not being able to skip large chunks of dialogue, especially after resuming a saved game. Even more frustrating were the few pointless pauses in the game. These occur when switching and using certain Pixl characters, like Dottie and occasionally Boomer, and in cutscenes where you had to wait for something silly, like Mario noddding his head, before you could resume control.
STORY ----------- For an RPG to be any good, it has to have a decent story. Fortunately, SPM has a good story!
Firstly, one of the best things for me about SPM was the anticipation of finding out what the next chapter's theme was. I was pleased to find there were no typical "fire and ice" levels; almost everything was fresh.
The story itself was entertaining, aided by the game's graphical style to show various things happening. Be prepared for interesting twists in certain chapters' plots, in particular the one involving Crags.
Unfortunately the bigger twist in the main story was ruined, solely by dragging it out for too long. By the end of the fourth or fifth chapter, with three long worlds to go, it becomes painfully obvious what the deal is.
I won't reveal the ending, but compared to the endings for other Mario games, it's sickeningly saccharine.
MUSIC ---------- The slow gameplay coupled with the long levels and figuring out what to do, particularly with later levels, ruins the effectiveness of the looping music. However, the music is very good! I particularly enoyed the musical style, and the hints of previous Mario theme tunes in the songs.
GRAPHICS ---------------- I'm a fan of 2D games, and I liked the two-dimensional, technically drawn style of the scenery. Switching into 3D with Mario was no disappointment, either; for the first time you could see what Mario could probably see if you were playing a classic game.
I wasn't a fan of the drawing style used for just a handful of the bad guys, such as the turtles. The "bouncy" animation style in certain places was also a turn-off, particularly as it interferes with the pace of the game. However, the way scrnery and important game elements were drawn was very impressive, staying true to the game's 2D theme.
CONCLUSION -------------------- Though I was critical of SPM in this review, I still think it's a great game. By no means is it worthy of a 10/10, but is one of the definitive titles for the Wii. Definitely consider it.
Advantages: Some great set pieces Disadvantages: Some awful set pieces
Super Paper Mario is a mixed bag; it contains some sparkling examples of excellent game play and wit, but for each jewel you will have to fight through lashings of dullness and repetition. I would heartily recommend a "director cut" version of Super Paper Mario (at half its length) but Super Paper Mario is too wordy and repetitive.
Wii games will live or die by its control system, and luckily Super Paper Mario has not gone down the "forced waggling" ... ...the NES with the wiimote held sideways akin to the original NES controller. It does require the odd waggle for special features but they play well and feel natural. The plot is shown via cut scenes with a lot more dialog than is really necessary. Combined with the complete lack of voice acting and awful artistic choices such as Count Bleck obsession with saying "Bleck", Nastasia constant erring and O'Chunks spelling of “teh” leads to ...

...have delivered once again with Super Paper Mario.
The game is the spiritual successor to Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door on Gamecube, and before that, Paper Mario on the Nintendo64. This particular series of Mario titles are what people like to call Platform RPGs. At their heart, they're classic platformers, but you have the ability to 'level up' as it were, just like in an RPG. The titles in the series have always a particular style to them, ... ...All in all, Super Paper Mario is a treat to play, but sadly, there are a few issues with the game. Some of the dialogue goes on for what feels like hours, and sadly, it's unskippable, and for an RPG, it's relatively short. The game can be completed in about 30 hours max, but if you want to look for all the hidden extras, then obviously the game will last longer. The space chapter is arguably the dullest level design in Mario RPG history, as most ...

Advantages: Great art style, witty, nice story and classic platforming Disadvantages: Some gameplay aspects are terrible and repetitive
Something a little different from Mario this time on the Wii: a 2D platform, with a few extra dimensions to it.
This game is the third game in the Paper Mario series but differs from the first two to focus on more of a traditional 2D platforming adventure. It was my first game for the Wii and I feel that it misses on some aspects but packs some great classic 2D action.
The story focuses around Count Bleck, who for some reason decides to destroy ... ...him... as usual. So you set off into many different themed worlds, to find Pure Hearts, which are the only thing that can stop him, as a void in the universe expands in the sky.
'''Gameplay'''
Most of the game is focused on tradtional 2D platforming, jumping around avoiding the bad guys, the bottomless pits and the spiking objects, but the main draw is a couple of new introductions to this type of game. The first is Mario's flip ability. At various ...

Advantages: Good ideas Disadvantages: Dull In Parts
To me, Mario is an actual hero. I grew up playing his games and, as an adult, I always keep an eye out for any new games that are released featuring the little italian plumber. We got this game bundled with the wii when we bought it in late 2007 and I was really excited to play it. I switched on the wii, put in the disc and loaded it up. There was never really any introductions on any of Mario's games in the past but this has one. A very very long ... ...to skip it but alas, I was destined to sit through alot of needless rubbish before the gameplay could begin. I like my games to have some sort of storyline but this was too much for me. Once I (finally) got started the game still runs like a tutorial. This might be helpful to kids who are new to gaming but I've been playing games for twenty years! I don't need this! There are some nice aspects to this game, the way you can switch between 2D and 3D ...

...the Wii because I love Super Mario games and basically grew up with them on the snes, Wii games are mostly all fun and I heard that this one was good as it was a game you play it switching between 2d and 3d which is pretty different for Nintendo to be able to switch in between the dimensions like that. The story in this game is great, it keeps developing as the game continues and also keeps you guessing until the end on what really is the story behind ... ...game. The basic story line behind this game is that you have to stop the evil Count Bleck from destroying the world. You can play with all the characters in the game, as you find them at different stages, and they all have different skills, also you get little pixies that can help you by giving your player different skills as well. This game is quite challenging, but I like a challenge, it gave me and my boyfriend hours of play until we completed ...

Advantages: Good value for money and is well loadz of fun Disadvantages: The games are rather expensive.
I never used to be interested in buying the latest games consoles like the xbox and nintendos. One of my friends bought a nintendo wii the other week and I went round to have a go. It amazed me. I thought that when they made consoles they made them and got people to buy them and then make the new games at £40 - £50 so you're paying more for the games than you did for the console. When my friend got the wii i tried it out and had to get one. I bought one with the wii sports pack
It included 5 sports wii fitness training. Baseball, Tennis, Golf, Bowling and Boxing. I have to say its the best thing ive ever spent my money on. It may cost nearly £200 pounds but its well worth it.
I bought with my Wii 2 games to explore what it was like on other games apart from sports, one of which was SuperPaperMario---SuperPaperMario brings ...

Advantages: big memory, sleek smart design Disadvantages: remote and sensor bar can be a little over sensitive
is also a slot in which you can plug in your gamecube controller, and play your gamecube games!!! Another feature which i think makes the Wii such an innovative and original product.
The bundles that you can get are actually pretty good value for money!!!
I brought a bundle for £200 and in that i got the wii plus 1 wii remote, with wii sports and another game. which i thought was pretty good, since buying the console and the game separately would have cost me £235, so a saving of £35 isn't bad.
Although i personally think that some of the games can be a little expensive, the range of games available is very good. There are games to suit almost any taste. From great fun group games like wii sport, wii play, mario and sonic at the olympics and warioware, to individual player games such as harry potter, superpapermario and super ...

Advantages: Nintendo reliability Disadvantages: Can make grown men cry
to get a move out and it will not be performed, even after minutes of frantic waving. The only thing that Zelda on the Wii has over the Game Cube version is that the WiiMote has a speaker built-in that does a sword slashing sound whenever you swing it and that?s pretty cool. To keep it fair, I have other original Wii games such as Mario Kart Wii and SuperPaperMario, but Mario Kart Wii is basically like the other 3D Mario Kart games but with the WiiMote being held horizontally for wireless motion sensored steering, and SuperPaperMario is 2D, which can be done on the Game Cube. Am I missing something here?
So far, you must be getting the idea that I do not like the Wii very much and no, I don?t. This is just my opinion after using it for many months and it is the perspective of a guy who has used many console systems in his lifetime ...

Manufacturer's product description
Mario and Luigi are enjoying a lazy afternoon at their house when they hear the terrible news: Princess Peach has been kidnapped! The two brothers head straight for Bowser\'s castle to get her back, but Bowser is just as surprised about Peach\'s kidnapping as they are. At that moment, a strange top-hatted villain warps in and abducts everyone but Mario. The mysterious villain then forces Peach and Bowser to get married, creating a rift of dark energy that threatens to tear the universe apart! Only Mario can save the day...but he can\'t do it alone.
What at first glance appears to be your classic 2-D adventure ripped straight from the stylized pages of the Paper Mario universe, soon turns into an hysterical 3-D action game possible only on Wii!
Early on, the 2-D side-scrolling game play appears to be reminiscent of New Super Mario Bros. But as soon as Mario learns the ability to flip between dimensions, players will be constantly flipping between 2-D and 3-D to pass perilous pits, find hidden coins and passages, and talk to characters who are visible only in 3-D.
