Advantages different take on gaming

Disadvantages can be boring

We bought Super Paper Mario not long after it came out. We'd seen the adverts and though the 2d/3d dimensions of the game looked appealing.

We managed to pick up our copy from Sainsburys for £29.99. I don't mind paying that for a game if I'm going to get my money's worth out of it, but I begrudge paying much more for one.
My other half was the one who really wanted this game. He thought I would like it and he thought he would enjoy it as well despite being into first person shooter games most of the time.

**Storyline**

There probably isn't a person alive who hasn't heard of Mario. The plot lines are usually the same, being you have to rescue Princess Peach. This game isn't that different in the plot lines, however Peach does appear as a character in the game before too long, and your quest to collect all the pure hearts to recover the world carries on.
You play firstly as Mario and along the way have the chance to pick up Peach, Bowser and Luigi. Based in the town of Flipside, you are guided by the wizard Merlon to get on with your quest.

There are 8 pure hearts to retrieve and each one being set within a different area, i.e. space, desert etch. Within these levels are the usual quests, logic puzzles, some of which are harder than others.
To assist you within each level you will find a pixel. These little pixels will help you on your way as they will each have different abilities such as being able to shrink, hitting things hard, floating, turning paper thin (hence the title of the game).

** Sub quests within the game **

As most platform games there are sub quests to complete. Within Super paper Mario it's recipes, collectable cards and pit of 100 trials.
I personally haven't bothered too much with collecting any of the above and have only had a go at the pit of 100 trials once and got quite bored with it as it appeared repetitive.

** 2d / 3d **

Super Paper Mario boasts the unique game play of being able to play in 2d and 3d. This is a good function to have within the game, and also ensures you have to try out each dimension in order to complete levels.
Only Mario as a character can flip between 2d and 3d. Bowser, peach and Luigi each have their own abilities, but as you play as Mario 99% of the time then this works well.

** Graphics **

The Wii never has been praised for it's graphics. However as a fun gaming machine then the graphics stand up fine for the game.
During Mario all the old Mario scenes appear at certain times, so the blocky graphics are almost part of the game considering how old the Mario games go back.

** Game play **

As I mentioned my other half thought he would enjoy this, but in fact it didn't appeal to him when he started playing it. The same can be said for my 12 year old daughter, but then she doesn't stick at any game for too long.
I am the only person that has truly played this game. To be honest I found the early levels easy and quite boring, but as I have travelled through the game, I have found challenging parts of levels and after being stumped for a while worked it out etc.

The irritating thing with most Mario games is that Peach is always in the next darn castle! Lissy
