I am a nail varnish girl! I always like to have my nails painted. I rarely go for vibrant colours and more often than not I tend to stick to paler colours. I’ve found by doing so it’s much easier to maintain your nails!
A couple of weeks ago I arranged to a friend’s house on a Thursday night after work for some tea and wine! As we would both be drinking and we live quite far away from each other now, we decided that I would stay over that night.
On the Wednesday night I should have got all my stuff ready and packed my overnight bag! But hey it's me we’re talking about! I was so tired and retired to bed thinking what the hell I’ll do it in the morning!!
Bad move – Thursday morning arrived and I couldn’t get out of bed. I had a big mad rush cramming everything in a bag. I was even quite proud of my mad pack. I’d even remembered to pack a spare set of contact lenses if the inevitable had happened!
It wasn’t until I was sitting at my desk typing away that day that it dawned on me…….my nails…….they were an absolute state. A couple of days previous I’d decided to try out a new deep purple shade of nail polish. So much for sticking to pale shades eh! As this was now the third day it was starting to look worse for wear and was chipped and flaking. I’d meant to take the polish off the night before but was way to tired and sleepy!
So it was a mad rush to Superdrug that lunctime. I usually use bottled nail varnish remover but then I remembered whatever I buy must fit in my bag. That was the large bottle out the window. I then looked at the nail polish remover pads and spied Superdrug’s own brand. I then looked at the price - £1.15. Sold. I didn’t have time to waste.
On my return to work it was time to remove this ghastly nail polish. So I take out the bag comes the nail polish remover pads and am pleasantly surprised!
~~~~The Packaging~~~~
The packaging is very basic. The pads come in a white plastic rounded tub. The circumference of the tub is about 4 inches approx. Small enough to slip into a drawer or handbag and doesn’t take up much room.
On top of the lid is a bright pink round sticker. On the sticker at the top is the words “superdrug” in lower case in white writing. Under that is a navy banner sporting the words “BEAUTY ESSENTIALS” in bold type with white writing. In pink writing also in bold type is the words “NAIL POLISH REMOVER PADS”
Top open the tub you simply twist the top half of the tub which unthreads from the bottom half.
~~~~The Pads~~~
Inside the tub there are 40 cotton nail polish remover pads which are soaked with remover. They are moist enough without being totally saturated!! They do have that familiar nail polish remover smell – that acetone smell - but they also smell kind of fruity too in a funny sort of way! The packaging does mention that these contain Panthenol Pro-Vitamin B5 which may account for this “nicer” smell.

On the underneath of the tub there are directions for use. Superdrug advise to use one pad on five nails and after a few seconds wipe away individually. My understanding of these instructions meant that you would have to scrunch all your fingers together and use one pad to cover each nail – then use the pad separately on each nail. Bit too complicated for this lass. Instead what I do, is each nail in turn. I press the pad on the nail for a few seconds then rub away. This works a lot better for me and one pad does all ten nails!! So hey Mr Superdrug I have managed to make your product last twice as long as you state!!!

These little pads saved the day for me!! My friend did not have to see my chipped tatty nails and i was able to attend meetings that afternoon without cringing everytime i needed to take notes!! I will definitely be buying these again and keeping a tub in my drawer at work!! They are excellent value and do the job in no time at all. My nails felt really moisturised after use and were not dry like some removers leave your nails.
Also – one extra bit of info!!
Last weekend I managed to get superglue on most of my fingers whilst trying to do a small repair job in the house. I tried paint thinners to remove the glue but no such luck! I logged on to the net and decided to Ask Jeeves (www.ask.com) what he recommended. His response was nail polish remover!!! A couple of these pads saved my day yet again!!! Thanks Jeeves and thank Superdrug.
