Supply Teaching

... DISADVANTAGES: Supply teaching isn’t my ideal job, it does have many disadvantages. The main one for me is the behaviour of some of the children. Some of the schools I’ve worked in have been a little ‘challenging’! As soon as pupils see that their regular teacher isn’t there they ... Read review

Supply teaching

Advantages: Well paid, can work when you want, no planning
Disadvantages: Behaviour, unpaid holidays, lack of social side

I have been doing supply teaching for over a year now. I thought I’d write about my experiences and give some advice to those who might be thinking of supply work.

BACKGROUND:

I trained to be a teacher in 2006-7. I had never wanted to be a teacher, it was never something I always dreamed of being. I had always planned to be a lawyer. However, after studying History at university I knew that I wanted to work with the ...
...no job meant going into supply teaching, something I dreaded but knew was a necessity.

The first thing you need to do when thinking of supply teaching is to join an agency. I was referred to an agency by the school that I worked in, in my first year, My old school said they were good and they were also their first choice so I hoped I might get some days working back there as I loved working there.

My agency is Teaching ... more

bcuc uni Campus

Advantages: good uni, lots of coures
Disadvantages: too many campus

campus which goes throw Wellesbourne campus. Chalfont campus is in the middle of nowhere. On this campus there are halls that can house up to 700 students which is mainly for student that study on the campus. This is normal stuff like any other uni all in one campus as this campuses is so very isolated there is defiantly need for a car but there is a good bus service to uxbridge and other places. The campus has a gym, 2 bars, a local uni shop (expensive), a couple of teaching blocks, library which has a good supply of books and a canteen. And miles and miles of fields. The main areas of course that are based on this campus are Law Nursing, business. The halls are grate all less then 5 min walk from every thing and are grate with free internet. Over all the uni is pretty good the major problems are the 3 campus not local to each other ...

A CARERS POINT OF VIEW

Advantages: making a differance to these peoples lives
Disadvantages: low paid

. Maybe someday our carers will love us. But until my time comes, I hope to go on And make these places a better place. I am in the right job. I can, and will make a difference to these wonderful peoples lives Since writing this opinion I have gained promotion to senior care. It was because of the love of my residents that I worked as hard as I could to make their home a better place for them to live. Teaching my colleges along the way to respect these people who are paying their wages. To respect their dignity, Their privacy and also promote their independence. What we must all remember that these people are not only supplying us with a lively hood, they are teaching us how to respect each other? If this can?t be learnt through this caring profession, then you are obviously in the wrong job. I have also gone on to do my N V ...

A summer spent getting a tan?

Advantages: Demanding and always different
Disadvantages: I miss the bonuses and share save schemes.

their own technique, mine is quite simple and somewhat traditional old school, with a new class I do not smile for at least the first four weeks and I tend to target in the first lesson anybody who goes and sits at the back and give them a good rollicking the first opportunity I get, zero tolerance is the order of the day and most times that does the job. Naturally with sixth formers it is slightly different but I do set boundaries and expectations very quickly. Interestingly when it comes to job security teaching is seen to be one of the most secure, the TDA who oversee all teacher training have seen a 30% increase in enquiries over the past few months as the recession begins to bite. I guess with birth rates there is at least a continual supply of raw material to work with unlike oil or credit. Teaching is also good for those who want ...
