Advantages Advantages Discounted bestsellers, excellent range of cards, good for local information

Disadvantages Disadvantages You won't find more specialist books

Sussex Stationers, to me, always seems a bit like a cross between a regular bookshop and a bargain bookshop. It is neither one nor the other. Unlike bargain bookshops, which often sell some strange and obscure titles, or books that have failed to sell successfully, this chain of bookshops, found in the South of England, sell all the best sellers, and much more. There are 40 branches, found not just in Sussex, but also in Kent and Surrey, and one has now opened in Oxford Street, London. The real bonus about this chain of bookshops is that every book in the charts, and many other popular books ... more

Advantages Advantages Cheap, cheerful and crazy prices

Disadvantages Disadvantages Not enough of them around

Being a hard up student, i'm always bargin hunting and when Sussex Stationers opened a branch in maidstone i was ecstatic! OK, so it sounds VERY sad, but it was not only interesting, but a life saver too. It opened right in the middle of the high street - oppostie what was Topshop - a perfect spot! When I first saw it, i thought it was going to be another shop like poundland, wth really cheap and tacky things, that were really poor quality, but i was wrong! The front was filled with books, and not just any books, best sellers, releases and recent smash hits! They were up to date and the prices ... more

    Advantages Advantages Great prices

Disadvantages Disadvantages Not nearly enough of them, existing stores should be bigger

Sussex Stationers has to be one of the best cheap book shops around. Selling a selection of art and office materials as well as a broad variety of books has made Sussex Stationers a haven for broke students like myself, a place where books can be found for a lot less that other high street bookshops and online bookshops. I have bought books there that should have cost well over £20, that only cost maybe £9.99 at the most. My most frequent purchase from this shop are novels by a popular fantasy author, these all sell at £4.99 each, yet cost about £5.99 or £6.99 in other bookshops. I have now ... more

Advantages Advantages Excellent range of popular books at very cheap prices

Disadvantages Disadvantages Hardly any academic or specialist books

Sussex Stationers has a large number of stores around the South East, offering large discounts on a wide variety of books. It is almost definitely the cheapest bookshop on the high street (other than discounted shops). If you want a book that is widely available, but at a very competitive price, than find your nearest Sussex Stationers. However, here is the rub. If you are after academic books, then you will be pushed to find what you are looking for and you are best looking at Amazon. This particular problem is not unique to Sussex Stationers. Most high street bookshop chains have a very poor ... more
