Well what can I say the GSXR 600 K5, probabaly one of the best of the series. I got mine for £5000, second hand 3 months old 400 miles on the clock, the bloke I got it from was scared of it, wanted a quick sale to buy a bandit 600 again. WHY????
A beautifully well balanced machine pushing out about 110 to 115 bhp and a top speed of about 155-160mph. (I have had 153mph out of mine, tested and tagged in a speed trap). This machine will take your licence from you you have been warned. You can change the exhaust without worring about setting up the carbs, I love electronic ingition and injection valves. The bike does the work for you.
Petrol tank holds about 17 litres, waring light comes on when your getting low, I was 20 miles away from a petrol station and got there ok so plenty of time when the light does come on. The clock is digital display nice and large figures.
Change the steering damper if you want the stock ones are ok but I prefer Harris kit on my bike, thats just me. Alhpa-dot comes as standard make sure you register in your name if you buy second hand, fit an alarm, I fitted a Datatool system 3 and had and additional trigger switch fitted under the seat, just to stop people tring to get to the alarm before it goes off. Invest in a trickle charger Optimate do an good selection, Mine cost £35 off ebay, and is connected to the bike all the time. Single seat hood may come as standard as well as the pillon seat. Invest in a rear hugger they cost from £50 - £ 150 depending on the sort you want and were you get it from.
Mine is the Black and Silver version, which I thinks looks alot better that the Blue and White. It handles great and it inspires lots of confindence espically when you go hot into a corner, then have just enough power to accelerate out again. It won't accelerate as quick as a thou but you can just about keep up and sometimes pass the thou in the corners depending on the rider. Great riding on the road even better riding on track days, I got to Rockingham quite alot, as its only 15 minutes away and costs between £150 - £170 a time, and can sometimes get into Silverstone for free, its great knowing poeple who work there. Track days a great go as fast as you like and have all the fun say sod it to the coppers and enjoy, the ride home later. (If you ain't smashed your pride and enjoy fallen off).
I felt a little let down with the standard brake lines, so I soon changed them to bradied lines, and now WOW! much more controlled and better braking ability.
Servicing isn't to bad £100 for its second service, the next is not due til may next year, so it should be about the same again. Replaced the rear tyre at a price of £110 fitted, quite cheap really and got about 2500 miles out of it. (The edges were well and truly scrubed in). Look on ebay for tyres, I got the first rear for £70 inc posting, then I got a spare set front and rear for next year at wait for it................. £105 + £7.95 posting, what a bargain.
The ride can be little cramped after about 1hrs solid riding, I'm 6 foot tall, but other wise its ok for the quick rides. There is room for a pillon but make sure its a small one, as they do tend to sit quite high up and this reduces the top speed and the handling of the bike. I don't like pillons they change the way I would normally ride, fast and hard.
The expensive stuff insurance, shop around I got mine for £331, tax is £65 for the year no six months type for bikes. Petrol £12 gets me about 120 miles.
Thanks for reading and keep safe for next year people, hope to see you all on the roads. Moto cross time now the fun just keeps coming, I might even right a review on my RM 250 yeah! another Suzuki, I love um. Big-D93
