Not me!
When I bought my first house in 1998, I naively thought that Electricity came from Swalec, Gas from British Gas, and duly took the readings from my meters and submitted them to the relevant companies.
Two weeks later I received a letter from BG addressed to my husband (I don't ... Read review

...reading had been taken by SWALEC and sent to them. They kindly agreed to freeze the bill until the matter was sorted out, and gave me details of who to contact at SWALEC. This I duly did, and unlike BG, the operator advised me this was "tough, and that is BG's fault for taking the wrong meter reading", and there was nothing they could do about it, by this time I was quite upset, the operator told me to stop being so neurotic. I then went back to ... ...I received a bill from SWALEC (at no point since moving in the house had either company entered my property to take a meter reading). The bill was for a c£68 and the meter readings were about 5000 units more than my current reading. I contacted SWALEC, and gave them my correct reading, the result a red bill for the outstanding amount. I contacted them again, and received another meter reading for slightly more money, the meter readings were about ...

...Initially though we remained with Swalec for electricity and Elf for Gas until we were settled in.
Our problems with Swalec started because there had been a mix up with house numbers on our road caused by the developer changing plot numbers and someone at the post office not being able to read a map. As a result of this our neighbour 2 doors down had already sent out his new address as No.1. We discovered this the week before we moved and checked ... ...explain would be sufficient.
Swalec however managed to prove that this would not be the case. We rang them before we received any bills to get our supplier refernce number and explained about the cock-up with the house numbers. No problem- we were told- they would amend their records accordingly. I December 1999 we rang Swalec to request a change to Economy 7. This was when we discoveerd that they still had us at No.3. Very sorry they said, we will ...

Advantages: You mean there are some? Disadvantages: clueless, unhelpful, expensive!
...my new front door from Swalec not a new card for my electricity meters, as I expected, oh no, a card for my gas meter. A gas meter which has no slot to place a card in.
Once more I ring Swalec (oh and by the way the call is free so I guess that’s a plus) to tell them about my meter, I am told yet again not to worry it’ll be sorted out, oh and yes we’ll issue you another electric card whilst we’re at it. A couple of days later the electricity left ... ...what? That’s right I ring Swalec (I know have their number tattooed onto my memory) listen to a bit more of “love, love me do” until I eventually get to talk to a voice. Apparently the cards can take up to 10 days, so I should wait a little longer for my card, as for the refund tokens I was promised, well they hadn’t been sent and wouldn’t be sent. I was confused, so the girl explained to me that I couldn’t have a token refund I could have a refund ...

Advantages: NONE Disadvantages: useless company that hasnt a clue wot its doing
I have been a swalec customer for many years for bothe gas & electricity, didnt have a problem with them thought they where a good company & really didnt want to switch companies (2 much hassle) until recently.
In April 2005 i received a gas bill which said i owed £130 which was not true because i have a quantum meter & had no arrears, emailed them & they looked into it & emailed me back to say they where very sorry & that i was quite right I did ... ...got a phone call from swalec last week asking my why i had switched suppliers & that i should stay with them because they are cheaper than Powergen. Cant really tell you what my reply was to "why i had switched suppliers" all i can say is the person on other end of phone wasnt happy!!!!
Do they really think that when they keep making "errors" that people will just forgive them & not switch suppliers????
Yes its early days with powergen & will soon ...

Re: SWALEC rip off (KORKY424 - May 2007)
My experience of SWALEC's easywarm is similar. Once on this tariff there are no statements of usage. SWALEC takes the money and offers no support.
In April 2007 I suspected I was paying over the odds and contacted SWALEC. I was informed that they were reviewing prices so I waited for the outcome. Nothing from SWALEC.
This morning (17/6/2007) I discovered that I could save £170 by switching to SWALEC's standard tariff and £520 by switching to another supplier.
SWALEC got this one wrong from the start.. They quickly changed the conditions for customers, age and usage, and now customers are stuck with inflated prices.
Definitely one to avoid.
