My daughter has always sung the praises of her bread maker to me and the gifts of freshly cooked bread were certainly a welcome treat. I expressed an interest in owning one myself. On mother's day this year my son surprised me with a lovely gift- a Swan bread maker SB 1010! Never having used a bread maker before the first loaf was very experimental. I tried and failed to make sure that the water added in the recipe was just the right temperature, buy heating it first. Consequently the loaf sunk sadly in the middle. On my next attempt I used water directly from the cold tap and was delighted with the result- a well- risen golden loaf accompanied by an appetising aroma! My partner has always enjoyed bread with carraway seeds-not easy to find and quite expensive.I decided to try adding carroway seeds to my bread mixture and the end product was a winner-- a carraway loaf at a fraction of the price! The instruction leaflet and recipes with the machine are excellent - easy to follow and have always proved successful. The ingredients are not expensive compared to what you would have to pay for a freshly baked uncut loaf. I don't know the expense of the electricity used. The process takes around three hours from start to finish. There is a recipe for ultra fast bread but i have not tried that one I make french loaf, wholemeal bread and white. There is a facility for making sweet bread recipes , cake and jam also that I have not tried .The nmachine is easy to clean, I just wipe with a damp cloth inside and out. The blade that fits into the bread pan is sometimes difficult to remove to clean. The instruction booklet suggests soaking in warm water to remedy the problem and this works.
It is simple to use the machine and the results are very mpressive. I make all my own bread now. It is good to know exactly what you are eating!
I don't know the price of the machine as it was a gift. I would recommend it to anyone. I wouldn't be without my swan bread maker now.
Advantages: Makes perfect loaves at a good deal less than shop prices and tastes better Disadvantages: None
...the ingredients in and leave the machine to do all the work. The machine displays time remaining so you always know how long before the process finishes. It's brilliant. It comes with a 2 year guarantee too, but Swan is a well known make so I'm not expecting any problems. ...
