Advantages: Full Night Vision Plus Great Day Vision Disadvantages: Slight Glow At Night, Slightly Larger Than Some
...Well go and get the Swann Day/Night camera. By day this camera is colour, but built into the front is a light level sensor, as soon as dusk is imposed upon the camera and the light drops low enough (to a pre-built in level) the camera not only switches into a black and white mode but it also triggers the infra-red led’s around the camera. What this does is give enough light for the camera to see in pure darkness for up to 10metres away. This is not ... ...it would not alert any body around, or get annoying to any neighbours by having a light coming on or off all night long (however the led’s do give of a faint red glow but nothing much). Basically this camera will give you the best vision by both day and by night.
WHAT DO I GET INCLUDED?
Well for as little as £50 if you shop round you can get one of these camera’s supplied with 20metres of cable which terminates in three phono ... more
PICTURE QUALITY Having a CCD (basically a high quality lens with more TV lines than a CMOS lens, which is just lower quality) lens makes this camera have a superb picture quality. The range is dependant upon the light level and shadows etc. For example you could point it at the sky at night and it will see the stars, but point at a car at the end of your road it’ll probably see the car (distance depending) but it probably won’t make out the registration. However if you had this camera above a door you’d get a great face image of any intruder or visitor and likewise you could put it above the average driveway of a house and clearly read a registration from say five meters away.
FEATURES OF THE CAMERA This is where the clever bit comes in. It’s long been known that a colour camera will give you a much better picture during the day than a black and white camera. This is due to the light levels allowing the colours to show up much better than in low light. Likewise a black and white camera will give you a better picture in low light. If you imagine a black and white image will show a kind of grain across the screen from shadows etc allowing different parts to be picked out on your screen. A colour one would just give you a blend of colours and you would only see black. So then the solution? Well go and get the Swann Day/Night camera. This is not light that is visible to the human eye and therefore it would not alert any body around, or get annoying to any neighbours by having a light coming on or off all night long (however the led’s do give of a faint red glow but nothing much). Basically this camera will give you the best vision by both day and by night.
WHAT DO I GET INCLUDED? Well for as little as £50 if you shop round you can get one of these camera’s supplied with 20metres of cable which terminates in three phono leads (oh did I mention it has audio too!!! – check the model you get though) and a power supply. Therefore connection is easy as you just need to plug it into a TV or VCR and plug in the power supply and your off and running with your very own CCTV system.
SIZE AND DESIGN It’s smaller than your fist (well mine anyway) which means for all the features that are packed into the unit it’s pretty small. From the front it looks a bit bigger than some cameras, but then that’s for the night vision so you can’t really complain. Great design and well packaged make this a great deal.
MY OVERALL OPINION Wonderful, I’d recommend this camera to anyone who wants to get the best camera possible for both day and night whilst also keeping wiring and connections to a minimum.
Go on, off you go…. I know you want to go and get one….
