I'm just a simple medical student at Sheffield University, and I joined Ciao to express my opinion through surveys, and hopefully make a bit of cash too! Now I've met with the review writing, I'm getting so much more out of it, and really enjoying it!

Firstly, let me just say I know NOTHING about computers. I am simply writing this review bercause I want others to know what an amazing thing this is.
I bought a brand new PC from Dell just a few weeks ago. It arrived, shiny and new a week or so later. I was so excited, I threw off the packaging and set it up. Now to connect the printer that my parents\' had leave me whilst going to Cyprus. Only there didn\'t seem to be the right holes to connect each to the other., I was miffed.
So, I set about looking for a Parallel-USB converter or Parallel-serial converter, but to no avail. I tried my local PC specialist, who said that one COULD be purchased for £35, but that as he stocked printer/scanner/copiers for £65, it may not be worth it, and even if it was, my printer may not be vista-compatible.. I tried Maplins, who did sell the converters, and only for a few quid, but the said salesperson said that they would not work in my case, and offered me another cable, for £30, which was never going to fit, so I thought I\'d try a new parallel port instead.
I ordered this, and I was so impressed when it arrived. even for a no-hoper like me, helped by my less-hoper girlfriend, we slotted this into the back of the computer easily, and when it was installed, I didn\'t even need the drivers for my apparently vista-risky printer. All the functions work well, although the software was of course needed for the specialist functions. My mate who is better with all things PC than I came round, and apparently the port tests at 2Mbps - 33% faster than it is rated for.
All in all, a great card for those need a - or an extra - parallel port :)

Nice review, and not surprised to hear that Dell have dropped the parallel port from their cheaper PC models, most use USB, and some use FireWire, these days. Not sure what "less-hoper" means though?

Good review. I think I know what you've done, so that makes about 4 of us with you, your girlfriend and your mate. Cheers, Andy
