Now, how many of you have heard of Swizzel's 'Double Dip?'

Out comes the swizzel stick, and into my mouth...
Now into the Cherry dip, and then straight back in my mouth...mmmmm...(but remember, I'm not enjoying this)
Now into the orange dip, and into my mouth...'zing'...lovely!
Well, as you can see, I’m probably going to be here a while, so I'll let you go now.
Oh, and before you leave, I'd better just add a bit...

If you don't want your teeth to rot then don't eat this because of all the sugar
If you don't want a sore tongue then don't eat this because of..well...I don't know what makes your tongue sore, but believe me - after a few, it gets really sore!
Apart from all that, I recommend these to everyone, and if your newsagent/sweet shop doesn't stock them, come to Wakefield where they're only 15p each! Well worth it if you buy them ... more
Yes, yes, about the title - If you can think of a better one...
Now, how many of you have heard of Swizzel's 'Double Dip?' Not a lot I dare say - I have found these extremely hard to get hold of, though I don't know why - They're made in Derbyshire by 'Swizzels Matlow Limited', and are really nice, so I can't understand why so few shops stock them.
To start off, I'll give you a quick description of the packaging (simply because I always find that a good place to start, and I doubt many of you will have seen one before). The Double Dip comes in a rectangular, paper package about 15cm by 10cm. The paper is separated into three sections: A 'Cherry Flavour' section (which is Red), an 'Orange Flavour' section (obviously orange), and a 'Swizzel Stick' one (which is yellow).
Now to open the dip, you have to rip the top off landscape orientated package. Immediately, the sweet, sugary smell has hit me...mmmmm... Inside, you can see that the orange flavour fizz dip is peachy orange coloured powder, and the cherry one is pale pink. "So you get a load of powder," I can hear you all thinking. Yes you do, but you also get a stick that I can only describe as a long double lolly (I hope you've heard of the Double (or Swizzel) Lollies. Well, this (yellow) stick is about 7cm long, and 1cm wide, and is licked and then dipped into the sherbetty dips. It is a sweet stick in it's own right, and could be eaten on its own if you dropped all the sherbet (so if you're clumsy, don't worry) but it tastes even better when eaten with a scrummy dip. I love the way that you can alternate between flavours, because that adds a real 'zing' to it.
Now, lucky you, I'm going to be kind and do you a taste test (I suppose it's just a necessity when doing a food review).
Right, I'm ripping off the top of the paper... mmm...That smell is just delicious! Out comes the swizzel stick, and into my mouth... Now into the Cherry dip, and then straight back in my mouth...mmmmm...(but remember, I'm not enjoying this) Now into the orange dip, and into my mouth...'zing'...lovely!

I hope you enjoyed my op, and I urge you to go forth and dip!
Advantages: Tastes great, cheap, very fizzy and yummmmmmmmm Disadvantages: Can be messy, dont eat befroe a meeting.
OK, I see Matthew reviewed this one already (cheers Matthew!), and as he's only 15 I guess he can be forgiven for standing at the kids corner in the local sweetshop.
I, on the other hand, have no such excuse and have to slowly raise my hand and plead guilty to being an over-aged, sad, thirty-something who still stands at the kids counter - I am however, only 5ft tall, so in height at least I am a kid and therefore qualify to hide there!
Among my ... ...(along with Wonka Fizzy Jerks, Swizzels, Parma Violets and Rainbow Drops...mmmm.... Rainbow drops). Here, for those adults who have been too embarrassed to buy one as yet, are my reasons for facing your embarassment and proudly joining me at the Kids Corner Counter:

At just 20p at my local newsagent, far less than any of my favourite chocolate bars, this is very affordable, even for real kids! However, for me, I pay considerably less ...

I had forgotten about Swizzels for a couple of years. They were brought back to me when I moved to a flat in Stockport which had a view of the New Mills Swizzels factory from the skylight.

It is navy blue and orange, bright and fun with pictures of aliens shooting sweets and riding in flying saucers. This packet is called Monster Mix. The packet claims to contain mountains of Children's favourite sweets. I question whether they are children's favourite sweets? (See nostalgia below.)

Dolly beads x1
DoubleDip x1
Double lollies x6
Drumsticks x3
Fizzers (15) x6
Fruity pops ...
Advantages: A cheap buy that is quite natural in ingredients Disadvantages: Not filling.
as: 'Love Hearts, Drumstick Lollies, New Refreshers, Fizzers, Double Lollies, Rainbow Drops, DoubleDip and Fun Gums'. Swizzel and Matlow haven't changed their recipes much over the years and all their sweets are all very good value. They are sweets of yesteryear and I think this is what's so endearing about them. Plainly packaged, with no frills they are basic sweets with a cheap price tag.
Rainbow Drops are gluten free and suitable for vegetarians. They are also low in fat. These sugar coated little puffs of maize and rice are a great buy at only 38p for an 80g bag. Or on offer this week at Tesco, 2 for 50p which is even better. A nice fun bag of candy that doesn't cost the earth.-

Advantages: full of sugar, nostalgia buzz Disadvantages: too small and sad
There I was, wandering through the aisles of Tesco's, feeling fed up and harassed with life in general, when I somehow steered myself into the sweetie area. (Don't know how that happened!)
A-ha! I thought, just what I need to cheer me up, a good old wallow in the nostalgic sugar rush.
I bought a selection of goodies, including the Swizzel's Double Lolly Fizz, and dashed straight out to my car to consume...
Ok, first off, the pack: It's a small pack, about 2.5 inches by 4, quite thin, but with a comforting feeling of bulk in the bottom. The cover design shows a nice big lolly, and a massive "FIZZ" across the pack. The slogan said "Dip the Swizzels lolly in the fruit flavour fizzy powder." I remember things like this from when I was a kid: 2p from the corner shop, a giant bag of tangy, fizzing powder to dip the lolly in ...
