We booked a cottage through Sykes cottages in Wales and found the property owners lived in the basement - they could hear everything we were doing. This was not explained in the brochure and when we queried it before arriving - problems with arranging key collection made us suspicious - we were told not to be so silly and of course the owners didn't live at the property. In addition to this the property was not up to scratch - not clean (the worst being blood found under toilet seat), antiquated heating system, inadequate smoke alarms, strange things happening with electrics etc. To top it all we also found fleas throughout the property that left us with numerous bites to our legs - the property was advertised as pet free but the owners used the property during the winter and had a dog! When all this was put to Sykes cottages they were not very helpful at all - were apparently not aware the owner lived there and the property had been inspected and apparently met standards.

We are sorry our customer did not enjoy his holiday. Where a customer has an issue we encourage them to raise it with the owner during the holiday. We also write to all our customers after the holiday for feedback on their experience.
It is therefore disappointing that he did neither and only raised the issues he refers to over TWO months after returning from his holiday. At that point it was understandably difficult to establish the validity or otherwise of his claims. We note that this is a very popular property which otherwise receives very positive feedback from customers.
