It was my younger daughter's fourth birthday on Saturday and from her grandparents she received this delightful Rose Cottage which is part of the Sylvanian Families range. They had already bought her a little family for Christmas but they didn't have anywhere to live - hence this cottage.
I love the entire Sylvanian families range and I think all of the products are particularly well made with good attention to detail and this cottage is no exception. It is made of a very sturdy plastic but it almost looks like wood. The cottage has two rooms over two floors with a connecting ladder between the two. It has a door and windows that open and close at the front. The back is open though allowing the child full access to play inside it. The cottage has a red roof and has a really lovely cottagey look to it.
It's not a very big house but it is the right size for any of the Sylvanian families. The dimensions are probably about 30cm wide x 20cm deep with a height of about 30cm. It's very lightweight too so both the size and the weight make it very easy for a small child to move it around so they are not restricted to playing in just one place.
The upstairs room has a built in stove which can't be moved. The house also comes with some additional furniture too which is one little figure and table and chairs. This is obviously not enough to fill the house but it is a start and means that your child has some bits to play with even if you have not got any other bits of furniture. As it happens the grandparents had already bought a kitchen set at Christmas and these all fit into the house very well.
Everything has a really charming old fashioned look to it and when the house is full of figures and furniture it really does have a delightful charming feel to it. Ever since she opened it on Saturday my daughter and her older sister have really enjoyed playing with the cottage and it seems to have provoked lots of imaginative ideas and talk. I always love listening in to my girls playing together and this has definitely captured their imaginations.
This house is recommended for children aged four and over and I can see it providing hours of fun for a long time. This will be especially so if we continue to add to our sylvanian collection which I am sure we will.
We did not actually buy this house as it was a present but I have just looked on Amazon and seen that it is on sale there for £24.95. As with all the products, it is not particularly cheap but I do believe that you are paying for quality. Also, Sylvanian Family products are stocked in a number of different places so it probably is worth shopping around.
I an really pleased with this small product and it's an excellent starter home for our Sylvanian figures. I like the fact that it helps entertain my daughters and also because the whole collection can be added to there will be endless possibilities for presents in the future.
