Advantages: Supports a wide range of devices and media types Disadvantages: Limited scheduling
scheduler offering the ability to do a full backup of all files on a designated day of the week and optionally to do an incremental one on the other days. I wasn't very impressed with this and felt this option seriously lacked flexibility. The only saving grace it had was that you could specify the user account and password this task would run under to ensure it completed successfully even if someone else was using the PC
Finally, there is Disaster Recovery Preparation. This analyses the PC before recommending exactly what you need to do a full recovery from scratch in the case of total loss of the hard drive or a similar catastrophic failure. I tried it on a test laptop which it duly analysed before advising we needed a Windows XP Pro CD, 4 floppy disks and a blank DVD-R. All well and good but the laptop had no floppy disk drive so that was ...
Advantages: Concise and accurate. Covers all aspects of Windows 2000 Server. Disadvantages: A very heavy book, not one for the bus!
Mastering Windows 200 Server, something that a lot of network analysts such as myself would like to do! On the front of the book it claims that it is the ‘complete guide to enterprise networking with Windows 2000 Server’, this is a bold claim because as the WindowsServer product grows increasing depth is required to investigate its features, whole books have been written just on TCP/IP. However, I can honestly say that this book does indeed cover all the aspects of Windows 2000 Server. I have now been using Widows 2000 for some time and I have not identified anything that the author has left out.
I would say this book is suitable for various levels of experience although it is easier to read if you at least know something about the WindowsServer family. The more experienced reader may wish to brush over the section ...
Advantages: Perfect for small businesses, home or otherwise Disadvantages: Not Unix based, suceptible to viruses, crackers, etc
This is a good product for those who wish for pure interoperability between a Windows only network. Somewhat easy to set up, and can be a hassle to keep running. As with other Microsoft products, support may be limited, and will be obsolete within a year or so, and updating may cause incompatibilities with other networked machines, account setups, and applications hosted on the server. But, it is a familiar interface, being windows. I personally wouldn't get this again, but that's because my needs were too specific for this server software. That doesn't mean you don't need it. I recommend it for a small home business that can handle downtime once in a while. ...
