Advantages: Good build quality, excellent customer support - Can be customised Disadvantages: Not enough memory as specified
...These Systemax machines are well-built, and have plenty of space inside for future upgrades. The cables inside are very neatly tied away, which makes life a lot easier when you want to install a new video card or extra RAM.
USB ports are provided front and rear, which is essential now that USB memory sticks are becoming popular.
However, I'd strongly suggest that prospective customers get more RAM fitted than the standard spec. With the standard 256MB the computer struggles a little with large documents, and you definately don't get the best out of the powerful AMD Athlon XP processor.
Fortunately, Simply allow you to customise these machines and will happily fit almost any extra gizmos you want, or remove anything you don't think you need.
I customised my machine to 1GB of RAM and added a DVD-writer to the standard equipment...

Advantages: Good quality, customisable, good support Disadvantages: Return to base warranty
...When my old PC finally gave up, I went to the Simply Computers website to check on prices (www.simply.co.uk). I'd been using Simply for a number of upgrades on previous PC's and had even built my previous PC using parts supplied by them. Their expertise had been well proven in the past. Building a PC from scratch is not really an option now, since system prices are so cheap now. I decided to check some of the computer superstores as well, but found that they were offering a lot of old stock at rather expensive prices.
Systemax was, to me, the obvious route , since they allowed me to specify exactly what I wanted from a huge range of components. They also have some suggested systems, if you don't want to spend the time choosing each individual component.
Being able to choose what parts of the PC I wanted allowed me to make use of some...

Advantages: good value for money Disadvantages: not build well
...I got my Systemax 500mhz 64SDRAM machine in June 2000. By early August I started having some problems that neither Simply Tech support nor their engineers could explain. I had to return my PC.
After 10 days I got it back with a note saying that there was nothing wrong with it and that it had undergone vigorous checks. However, as soon as I started working, the same problems started occuring.
Yes, you guessed it, I sent it back again. Now, it took them two weeks to figure out that there was nothing wrong with it, and sent it back to me.
Third time, four months later and probably 50 complains, Simply agreed to rebuild my PC.
I got my new PC at last, and everything seems fine. there are a few minor problems that I try not pay attention to. e.g. it doesn't play audio CDs,
When I phoned up the tech support to ask why, they recommended I...
