TAG Heuer Gents Link Watch

I'd always admire Tag Heuer watches and promised myself one day I'd buy one. Eventually a big bonus came in and I treated myself to a £595 Tag Heuer 2000 with a white face.

I was so proud! It really is beautiful and drew admiring comments from anyone I met.

The first problem I noticed was it would lose or gain up to 5 seconds a day! This was particularly noticable in the winter, when you moved from cold outdoors to ...
...not according to the official Tag Service Centre - it needed a complete 'service' - £120 - to replace failed parts.

A month later I got the watch back and carried on wearing it for another 2 years when the battery ran out. Ha-ha-ha, not really said the Service Centre; there has been a mechanical failure which will cost £110 to fix.

They then lost it, and it took SIX months to get it back (seriously, sadly this is true). ... more

The first problem I noticed was it would lose or gain up to 5 seconds a day! This was particularly noticable in the winter, when you moved from cold outdoors to warm indoors. Contacting the official Tag Dealer I'd bought the watch from I suggested it may have a fault.

Not so; I discovered that the Official Swiss Institute that certifies these things considers a Chronograph (not a watch by the way!) something that doesn't lose or gain more than 7 seconds! Hmmm, disappointed I carried on - I'd wanted an accurate watch but I'd spent so much on it I had to wear it.

All was well until a month after the 2 year warranty ran out. The watch stopped. The battery I assumed, but not according to the official Tag Service Centre - it needed a complete 'service' - £120 - to replace failed parts.

A month later I got the watch back and carried on wearing it for another 2 years when the battery ran out. Ha-ha-ha, not really said the Service Centre; there has been a mechanical failure which will cost £110 to fix.

They then lost it, and it took SIX months to get it back (seriously, sadly this is true). Tag waived the 'service charge' as a 'guesture of goodwill'.

Now, 2 1/2 years after the last service it stopped again. Foolishly I actually thought it was the battery and sent it off via an official dealer, but lo and behold its dead again and will require a £137 'service' to actually make it tell inaccurate time again.

This time I told them to just send back the watch - I didn't want to pay for it any more. It was a dismal depressing experience that has only taught me that 'quality and workmanship' is sales talk for 'cheap old fashioned equipment that we are charging alot for because of the prestige brand name'.

I'd recommend this watch to someone who wants a bit of subtle 'bling' as it looks great. Do not buy it if you need to tell the time with it or believe that you are making an investment in something that will last a long time.
