I’ve never really cared much about my hair. I’ve always assumed that because it is fine and fly-away that there isn’t really that much that can be done about it. That was until I bought myself a set of Tigi Control Freak shampoo and conditioners. Now I have salon hair each time I wash it and I’ve been getting loads of compliments recently! Not only does it look healthy and smell divine, but I have noticed a huge decline on split ends and kinks. I bought my shampoo and conditioner over six weeks ago and still have 9/10 of the bottle left so not only does it work, but it is very easy on the pocket… let me tell you about the conditioner, as the shampoo has been reviewed separately.
Who are Tigi? ***********
Tigi are a
well respected hair products company, who I’m sure many people have heard of, or experienced in their life. Personally I was a convert to their “Creative Genius” styling balm, and a firm fan of “Shine Junkie” but I’d never bought their shampoos for home use. I’d always thought VO5 was as good as it could get for my hair, and I didn’t feel that I could justify an £8 bottle of conditioner. Then when I was shopping in Castlecourt shopping centre in Belfast I found a store called “Trade Secret” which stocked all imaginable hair products at reasonable prices, so I invested in the Control Freak shampoo and conditioner. I love the smell, and it’s the same shampoo my hairdresser uses on me when I go.
TiGi were founded in 1971 to create products for Toni and Guy however, they now cater for all stylistic hairdressers, creating unique products to meet every need. Each product I’ve encountered smells good enough to eat, and certainly performs the task it is supposed to. The bottles and jars are designed to look fantastic on your dressing table. I’m a design student, and a real magpie when it comes to funky bottles and bright colours and you don’t get much more funky that the Tigi Bed Head range.
How does the product smell? *********************** Like the shampoo, the conditioner smells like pineapple. Last week I was laying on the beach in Santa Ponsa when a lady came around selling chunks of fresh pineapple, and as I tucked into mine, all I could think of was my frizzy holiday hair, and my lovely Tigi conditioner that I’d left behind. How sad was I!? I have heard people say that it smells a little too sweet for them, but for me it is delectable.
Consistency and Lather *******************
The Control Freak conditioner is a very thick consistency. I’d suggest you use a very small amount of the lime green ‘gel’. I was rather frustrated with the product when I first bought it, as I thought I should have more lather with the shampoo and that I should use plenty of the conditioner. Now i’ve grown used to the product and the tiniest amount of conditioner is more than enough to combat the frizzies.
The Conditioner bottle is smaller than the shampoo bottle, but you really shouldn’t need to use as much conditioner as shampoo as your hair is clean and already wet; so the smallest dollop of conditioner will slide effortlessly through your damp hair.
Effectiveness ***********
I used to wash my hair every day, but now I find that it is so clean I can leave it for up to three days. The Control Freak conditioner makes my damp hair very easy to comb and there is no more ‘ouch-factor’ as it is untangled and knotted. Without using the hairdryer to dry and style, my hair is soft and shiny, with a very visible reduction in frizziness. When I do use the hairdryer, my hair gets a little frizzier, but nowhere near as flyaway as it used to be. I’ve also been using hair straighteners a lot recently and I believe that the conditioner is saving my hair somewhat from the heat, I rarely have split ends now.
Is it Value for Money ? *******************
I think this conditioner is tremendous value for the money I paid. It was very expensive at £8 for a stubby 250ml bottle but barely looks used six weeks later. I only use tiny amounts when I condition my hair. On the Tigi website and they call it a “slickquid” formula. This is a good term for it, as it’s not quite a gel, or a liquid! Because it’s thick, a little goes a long way. And when a product is effective, you don’t mind shelling out the extra few pounds.
The Official Tigi Line ******************
“The Thick lather and rich fragrance empower your presence. It will stomp the curl, and fight the frizz. Hair will succumb to your every demand.”
Tigi’s website provides detailed information about their whole range, and what type of hair it is suitable for. In my opinion, it’s well worth a visit if you have the time, if not only to look at the original and funky packaging. www.tigihair.com You should be able to find Tigi products in a lot of local salons. (Control Freak is part of their “Bed Head” range)
I recommend it wholeheartedly. If you look at my photo in my profile that’s my Tigi hair, I’m almost tempted to put up a photo of my hair without this wonder product… then you’d have to believe my claims that this conditioner is wonderful!
