A semi-organised jumbles sale was my first impression of this store. I had noticed the chain grow into most of our local shopping centres and would marvel at the number of people going in and out of the stores. I found myself thinking what's the big deal. It looks like a cheap and tacky QD store but with the price tag of Next. Only one way to find out…..
Since my first visit I have been into the stores on several occasions although only ever made one purchase.
TK Maxx are essentially an outlet store selling branded goods at knock-down prices. They stock clothes for men, women and children, bags and luggage, toiletries, home wares and toys in out local branch. Although "branded" not all of the goods are makes that you have heard of. You can buy CK, Boss, Lacoste, Gossard and the like but there will also be plenty of labels that say "London, New York and Milan" that you have never heard of and are never likely to hear of again.
Much of what is sold are last years styles, over-runs and some seconds and this is how the prices stay so low.
Clothes are sorted into sizes and types (e.g. skirts, trousers, tops, leisure) and the like and no further. This can mean that the rails look sloppy and it can take forever to find what you are after. As most of the items are old stock you will rarely find more than one of anything in a particular size and so going away and thinking about it can be a bit of an issue.
There are undoubtedly some bargains to be had if you shop carefully but you will need time in order to do this. I have often looked for evening wear and jeans in here (although never found what I was after) as these items do not matter if they are "last-years" stock.
There are changing rooms allowing you to try on the clothes and they offer a 28 day money back guarantee if you decide against your purchase and thus the risks associated with buying from a store such as this are minimised.

TK Maxx does itself have sales too and items are often heavily discounted. Sale rails are kept separate from the main stock too so if, like me, you are a real bargain hunter, you can just home in on the mega-reduced stuff!
I would now recommend this shop but only if you have the time and the inclination to sift through rail after rail of semi-sorted clothes in the vain hope that they might just have what you are looking for!
CLAIRE's BOTTOM TEN TIPS for clothes shopping
1 - Always go dressed for what you want to buy - if you need an evening dress then there is no point in pitching up wearing your sports bra and DMs (and hopefully something else!)
2 - Shop carefully - is a label really that important?
3 - Brush aside your shopping prejudices - you may find what you are looking for in the least likely place (e.g. a wedding outfit in Primark - yes - I have done that!)
4 - If you simply must get something start out early to maximise your chances
5 - Shop for shoes at the beginning of the day before your feet are tired and swollen
6 - Think about your wardrobe and buy clothes that will maximise what you already have - that lurid green top my look great with one summer dress but will it go with anything else?
7 - Lose your baggage - leave unnecessary children and husbands at home!
8 - Indulge yourself every once in a while, it need not be expensive, you can just window shop but it's fun!
9 - Buy clothes that fit and that suit you not just because they are fashionable - you will look so much better in a simple outfit that fits than a designer outfit that doesn't suit.
10 - The best wardrobe is one that cost little to put together but will cost a fortune to replace.
Advantages: Labels For Less Disadvantages: Clothes Shopping is boring for Men
...cheap brands.
However in TK Maxx you have rows and rows of threads (as we called them in the 60's) embazoned with logos, most of which I have never heard of and vying to be the nost conspicuous. What is this all about?
Most of the clothes that end up in TK Maxx do so for a reason I suspect, ie they are last seasons style, the colour was unpopular etc. So when I look through the rails, 99% of the stuff I wouldn't look at for more than a second. ... ...bankrupt business or one that overstocked maybe? A nice Timberland Jacket at half price? That's more like it. But I really don't have much patience with clothes shopping, if I can go straight to Primark and get the colour and size I want, thats fine by me
Whilst I am having a good moan, despite the best efforts of the staff, the goods often seem to be mixed up, odd shoes, shirts in the wrong size section etc. I really can't be doing with this
But ...

T.K.Maxx is a subsiduary company of a huge U.S firm called T.J.X, Inc which has 1,300 stores across the whole of North America making it one of the Worlds largest discount retailers. The first T.K.Maxx was introduced to the U.K in 1994 as part of an expansion plan in Europe but the venture was very slow in taking off. However slow as it was, the off-price policy that T.K offers has begun to take off in recent times and there are now 123 stores in ... ...being 170 stores in the U.K within three years all making a profit which would mean that nearly every large town and city would have one, so if theres not one near you now, there soon will be !
T.K Maxx's off-price policy basically means that they sell top name brands at discount prices and the reason why they are cornering the niche in this market is that they are offering real designer products, not designer-style products which their competitors ...

Advantages: Cheap and changing stocks Disadvantages: Too jumble sale like!
...I'd write an opinion on Tk Maxx because clothes and shopping are my two favourite things :) I've already written ops on Topshop and H + M which are high in the rankings of my favourite shops, so I decided to turn to TK Maxx for my third!
There's a fairly large TK Maxx in Leeds. It's situated on the top floor of the Leeds Shopping Plaza set right at the back. They stock a LOT of goods like:
Clothes - mens, ladies and childrens
Shoes - mens and ... ...other brand name goods
TK Maxx tends to stock past season clothes at a fair price. Ther sections are divided into mens and womens and then into areas like:
Tops
Jeans
Trousers
Skirts
Casual wear
It's a lot like a jumble sale in the way that it's divided up because the clothes on the particular racks are pretty much randomly placed!!
Some of the brand names they stock are:
Quiksilver
Voodoo Dolls
Nike
DKNY
They also stock a lot lot more ...

TK Maxx -- branded goods at a fraction of the price. So prudes may label me a cheapskate, poseur (& the list goes on) but all I care to give in reply for now is "sticks and stones..."
A few things to note before you plunge head-on to your nearest TK Maxx:
(a) the products are usually past season
(b) they may sometimes be slightly damaged (c) be prepared to search for what you want

My trudges down to TK Maxx this December have so far resulted in finds such as a Roxy Quiksilver Stationery/Makeup Case (GBP 5.99 – RRP GBP 15.00), Pepe TrueForm Jeans (GBP 9.00 – RRP GBP 50.00), Billabong Girls Pants (GBP 7.00 – RRP GBP 45.00). In case you were wondering, the first price stated is what I paid at TK Maxx, while RRP stands for Recommended Retail Price (i.e. what you will be asked to pay in a regular ...

But before you get too excited, they are usually from about 10 years ago and way out of fashion. You do however sometimes find a 'current season' pair of jeans, or other article, avaliable for sale. Advantages: They do almost everything at really fantastic prices Disadvantages: Only a limited numbers of stores in the UK
I love a bargain. I think we all do if we are honest with ourselves really. I mean why pay more for something that you can get for less? Never makes any sense to me why people would do that, unless they were absolutely filthy, stinking rich of course. Although even if I was rich I'd still be a bargain hunter - it's something that is either installed in your or not and in my case it most definitely is!
If you are like me and like a bargain then Home Bargains is the store for you! I discovered it after a new retail park opened in town, it had the usual suspects - Next, Boots, Peacocks, TKMaxx and a shop I hadn't seen before Home Bargains. I wondered what kind of stuff they sold and went for a look around, that was the day I became hooked.
For those who have never been in a Home Bargains shop they are run by the T J Morris chain. Tom ...
Advantages: Huge choice, cheap Disadvantages: Not many sizes of same garment
One of the great things about shops like TKMAXX who sell past season clothes is the price of the products, kinda like Cheshire Oaks were I can find a pair of Versace jeans for £60! If only TKMAXX would stock the same brands as other retail outlets then it would be the best value shop around.
Generally I would say you would save about 20% on the recommended retail price on most products.
The reason TK can sell their goods for such low prices is because they stock past and surplus season stock for which they aquire for a cheap price. Therefore passing the savings onto us! The goods are not faulty factory rejects either which means that they are even better value. Its also good because they stock designers such as DKNY and GUESS, and top sports brands such as NIKE.
Their range of products is quite large, they cater for all age ...

prices. Primark is a member of the ethical trading initiative, and they were awarded 'Town Centre Retailer of the Year' , 'UK Retailer of the Year' , 'Best Value' , 'Best Budget' and 'Best Overall High Street Shop' Awards in 2008 alone.
The other day I needed socks and so I went directly to Primark. I visited TKMaxx previously and looked for socks there. The quality was really good and the price was somewhere between £2 to £5 for the 3 pair pack. In Primark, I found a pack of reduced white cotton Primark Essential socks that contains ten pairs (six sports socks and four trainer socks) for £2. The original price for this pack was £5, which is also a bargain. But what about quality?
This is not the first time I buy socks from Primark; I bought several packs of cotton socks (five pairs for £2). I cannot say that it's a terrific quality; it ...
