I can't believe that anyone reading this HASN'T been to a T K Maxx so I'll try and make this Review a bit different....
In case you didn't know, the T K Maxx proposition is that you get 'labels' for up to 60% off the RRP (recommended retail price)
They are US based and have about 800 stores worldwide. Their target Customer is 'a savvy consumer who is fashion and value conscious'
We have three (possibly more) stores in Glasgow that I am pretty familiar with
If you are into 'designer labels' but too skint to afford the 'full' price, this store will appeal to you
I must declare at the outset that I think 'designer labels' are a total con, if you look at the garmets, they are all made in Sri Lanka, the Phillipines, China, Vietnam or wherever, the same as clothes in Tesco and Primark but with a much higher price ticket. I will accept that a £100 pair of Diesel jeans could be better made than a £3 pair from Tesco, and more stylish, but the difference in price seems unjustified to me
I am also
not so insecure and vain that I must have a 'designer's' name embossed on my jean's backside or across the front of my t-shirt. So for me, Cherokee (Tesco), Primark and Sainsbury's clothes are just fine
However I do accept that before I became a grumpy old fogey, ie when I was in my teens and 20's, I thought that a pair of Levis jeans would make a babe magnet and show how cool I was. In fact I still buy Levis as I think they are well made, even though they shipped production to Eire and probably by now to the Far East. To me thay are quality and will take many. many washes, unlike some of the really cheap brands.
However in TK Maxx you have rows and rows of threads (as we called them in the 60's) embazoned with logos, most of which I have never heard of and vying to be the nost conspicuous. What is this all about?
Most of the clothes that end up in TK Maxx do so for a reason I suspect, ie they are last seasons style, the colour was unpopular etc. So when I look through the rails, 99% of the stuff I wouldn't look at for more than a second. HOWEVER there is the odd jem, maybe from a bankrupt business or one that overstocked maybe? A nice Timberland Jacket at half price? That's more like it. But I really don't have much patience with clothes shopping, if I can go straight to Primark and get the colour and size I want, thats fine by me
Whilst I am having a good moan, despite the best efforts of the staff, the goods often seem to be mixed up, odd shoes, shirts in the wrong size section etc. I really can't be doing with this
But for me T K Maxx has several saving graces. Firstly they don't just sell clothes. They often have a (rather small) toy section, often stuff is piled high in a total jumble, but you can find something like the odd playmobil or Knex toy at half price
They also sell kitchen gadgets, where I am in heaven. I have bought saucepans, griddle plans, professional knives, coffee percolators, egg slicers, the list goes on. As with everything, its best to check the labelling that this is s good quality, branded item and not some obscure cheapie
I have also bought the odd home furnishing item and even filofaxes at half price. These were all genuine bargains, but like supermarkets Lidl and Aldi, its pot luck what's in the store at any one time.
T K Maxx also have end-of aisle clearance sections. Sometimes the items will be incomplete, packaging damaged, so you need to check carefully.
They also stock things that never seem to sell, but I suppose some people must buy them For instance decorative jars filled with red peppers and the like. What's the point, you can't eat the contents. They sell Stollen at Christmas, never seen anyone buy one. And 'African' style woden sculpture of animals. It would spook me to have one in the house
However, to keep the best to last, for me a key reason to visit T K Maxx is unashamedly chauvanist.....its seems to attract some attractive, style conscious females!!! I have done some research and T K Maxx is undoubtedly a babe magnet!!!
Hope this helped, and hope it pushes up T K Maxx's footfall!!!
