This is a cheap and cheerful set of headphones which I bought at the local market recently, The reason I bought them was the fact that when the younger family members visit they nearly always play games or music on the computer and the only headphones I had was my rather expensive Sony set.
So rather than worry about anything happening to them I picked up the Topcom 400 Headset at the very cheap price of £4.99! At that price they sound pretty rubbish but after reading the specs on the package they sounded not bad and I thought I'd give them a go anyway.
The Topcom 400 is a headset with a microphone attached and works as microphone & earphone with Skype, MSN Messenger and other communications over the internet, They are also designed to be used with online gaming where you can chat and listen with other gamers or simply for listening to music.
Setting up is really easy .. This is a wired headset which has a 2m cable, at the end of the cable is the colour coded headphone and microphone jacks and it's simply a matter of plugging these jacks into the corresponding sockets and you're ready to chat online or listen to your favourite music.
The headset comes in silver and black and on the package it is described as a professional style headset and it certainly looks the part with it's behind the head headband which fits snuggly over the ears, The headband isn't adjustable to fit but because it's flexible and fits over the ears it is held in place even if it is a bit too big.
The microphone is attached to the left earpiece and can be moved up or down to the most comfortable position, the earpieces fit flat against the ears and the volume control can be found about 18 inches down the wire and has a simple wheel function.
These are quite comfortable to wear, They are really lightweight and don't cause any discomfort at all, The earpieces measure just over 2 inches wide and have a soft removable cushioning which covers the ears well.
This is a digital stereo headset and the audio sound quality is crisp and clear and is really good for chatting or playing online games and this is what they are used most for.
When listening to music they are considerably pretty good too, The volume control has a basic high/low and mute but if the volume control on your computer is set properly then the music comes through loud and clear with good bass sound and only becomes distorted when it's on really high.
Personally I haven't worn them for long periods but the younger ones have for maybe an hour or so playing games and chatting ect and they seem quite happy and haven't complained about any discomfort at all. Considering the price I paid for these the quality is excellent and at the higher price they are still worth it if you are on a budget.
I bought these at the local market for £4.99 but have seen them online for as much as £14.99 and recently saw them selling on Pixmania for £5 so it's worth shopping around as the price varies,
I would definitely recommend them for basic chatting and listening to music or for the younger ones to use. They come in an easy to open blister pack with leaflets included giving instructions and helpline numbers, All Topcom products come with a 2 year guarantee which is great for a product at the price I got them for.
