Performance wise the car has a top speed of 195Mph + that’s right! You will be able to get over the magic 200 mark on a good day (on a race track of course!!!!). Well what can I say, the title only just hints at the beauty of this car. Now first of all I should say I am writing about the TVR Tuscan S rather than the standard Tuscan, the main differences being performance and the rear of the car has a fin on it. I must insist that for you to comprehend the passion I have for this car, you must have a look at this photo.

This photo is on my desktop and believe it or not pushed Kelly Brook out of the screen (my old background), that’s right ladies cars really can have that effect. The Tuscan when released back in 1999 was hailed as one of the best super-cars ever to hit the market, imagine it, the power of a Ferrari Maranello with the weight of a Ford Fiesta. This car will out perform ALL Porsche currently on the market and all Ferrari’s apart from the new Enzo of course. The question which needs asked and the answer to which will keep you up at night is how much does it cost, well first take the Ferrari’s usually you’ll look at paying £90,000 plus or a Porsche about £62,000 plus – wait for it the TVR Tuscan S will set you back a measly £48,800 roughly, depending on extras. (How do they do it?)
Performance wise the car has a top speed of 195Mph + that’s right! You will be able to get over the magic 200 mark on a good day (on a race track of course!!!!). Acceleration will scare you even more however 0-62mph in ……. 3.7 seconds, compare that to most mid life crisis cars such as the Porsche 911 Turbo which manages this in a snail’s pace of 4.1 seconds. You would be forgiven for thinking and asking – that is all fine and well but fuel will cost you an arm and a leg with a miles per gallon figure of 0.5, you would however be wrong the Tuscan manages somehow someway to pull off 28 mpg which is quite phenomenal for a super-car. Best of all this car is completely British, that does not mean used to be British or built in Britain but owned by a German company, oh no. This car is produced in Blackpool, and a British man owns TVR a Mr Pete Wheeler.
Dimensions:- Lengh overall 4235 mm Width overall (including mirrors) 1810 mm Height Overall 1200 mm Ground Clearance 102 mm Wheelbase 2361 mm
One thing I had always wondered is how to open the car, if you look at the picture there are no door handles. Well recently I found out how as I had the privilege of getting in a friends Tuscan, on the underside of the wing mirrors there is a button. Push this and the window will slide down a few mm and pop open. How James bond is that! The Tuscan is also a convertible, this is achieved by removing the hard top and rear window by undoing a few clips. The car has been designed in such a way that these parts can then slide into the boot meaning you don’t have to leave them in the garage like some other cars.
Just incase I have managed to convince you about this car (which I am sure happened when you saw the photo) there is currently a three month waiting list, so get your name down quick! :-)
Standard equipment:- Adjustable Pedal Box Air conditioning Central locking Close ratio gearbox Colour coded wheels Alarm system with immobiliser Gas discharge headlights Outside temperature indicator Electric windows Power steering 18 inch wheels Stainless steel exhaust Electrically adjustable heated door mirror’s Tinted Glass Cd player Leather seats
One final point, just incase you have seen the film swordfish – yes this is that car. Only the ‘S’ is a sportier model.
Advantages: Performance, looks, noise, power Disadvantages: my 'local' dealer is 120 miles away!!!!
...I would never buy a TVR new, due to them being hand built there is a chance that an 'off the shelf' one could have a few issues. However buy a second hand one from a reputable specialist with full service history and your laughing!!! I agree with what was said in an earlier review of the Tuscan, if you want an everyday sports car buy a porsche if you want a weekend monster buy a TVR. I tend to only take mine out on dry days as in the wet it likes ... ...become a member of the tvr clan, every tvr owner becomes your friend.
Sorry to have rattled on for so long. I have tried to be as helpful as possible but during this review I have slipped a little and let my emotions run free. In fact im now a little dishearted as I am stuck at work and really really really want to take my tuscan out for a drive now!!!!
To some up (About time I hear you say!). The Tuscan is a fantastic car if you want to do the ...

Advantages: looks, raw power, low cost Disadvantages: few safety gadgets, rapid depreciation and poor reliability
The TVR Tuscan is the Supercar for the masses; for the price of a Porsche Boxster, you get the performance of a Carrera GT. This is a machine which will turn heads not just through its sleek curves and mean looking headlights, but by the fearsome growl of its 4 litre, 360 bhp engine.
The performance specs are impressive; a top speed of 180 mph and 0-62 in 4.1 seconds are backed up by frighteningly good brakes and highly responsive steering. The ... ...the proud owner of a TVR you also get the kick of being acknowledged by other TVR drivers with a flash of the lights or a wave - you are, after all, fellow members of the British driving elite.
There are a few noteable drawbacks. Firstly, in their efforts to keep down weight, Peter Wheeler and co. have stripped out most safety measures now considered standard by British motorists, ABS and airbags included. Power steering, electric windows and a ...

Advantages: Supercar performance for sports car money! Disadvantages: Not the most reliable.
...but you would be wrong. TVR have just released a new car named the Sagaris which is based on the Tuscan's sister car the T350, but the Saragis doesnt only have 350bhp it has 400! This means it is even faster than the tuscan and the same money! Only £50 000 and with slightly odd looks it could depreciate quicker than the Tuscan making it a more buyable sencond hand option.

Advantages: power, noise!, excitement Disadvantages: comfort, no mod-cons, handling (is there any?)
If you're looking for comfort, low road noise, sat-nav, cruise-control, room in the back for kids etc.. then look elsewhere. However, if you're single or want a weekend car then this is the only choice! Let me explain why.... OK so you want a sports car, so what do you look for in a sports car - refinement, precision - of course not! You want SPEED, POWER and THRILLS. This car has it in bucket loads, when you press the pedal to the floor the noise ... ...and sounds like a car should, a real V8. Accelerating away from lights and roundabouts this car is a dream, ducking and diving through b-roads is just as much fun (just watch the rear end). It may not be the safest, or have the best handling, or even the best performance. But if you want safe buy a volvo, if you want handling and performance buy a straight-laced porsche. This thing isn't built by phd missile-engineers it's built by people with real ...

Being the owner of a TVRTuscan once of the most important things to make sure of is getting the tyres right.
When I forst bought my Tuscan I did so even though alot of my friends and family said that I would kill myself or crash the car....Well they were nearly right and all I can say is that it is down to the tyres.
After having the car for approximately one month, I thought I had made the biggest mistake of my life the back end was coming out all over the place and I couldnt get the power down and was getting rather frustrated. So on the net I went, after hours of trawling through various websites i started to consider the tyres. They were the factory recommended tryes but they just didnt seem up to the job (they were new prior to me buying the tuscan so it wasnt that they were coming to the end of there life or anything!). Then ...

Advantages: stupidly quick, boosting (that sound), handling amazing, looks great, Disadvantages: on this model lack of ABS and Air con this is not standard though!
boosted it shot forward. I found a re-circulating dump valve was better than a normal dump valve and kept the power more consistent.
I would recommend this car to anybody. My clio 172 is like a smart car in comparision. This thing moved. You could be idling at 70 on a motorway and be up to 140 within 5 seconds!
If you get the chance to get one and you can afford the risk of it going wrong (a rariety but on imports who knows) then do it. This is better than any other like car. Only the TVRtuscan S have I drove that has made me feel better and only that car was faster.
loved this car it had everything. Disappointed was an understatement when it went wrong. However words of warning. Scooby's are usually very reliable but;
1) UK dealers won't touch imports- if they do they only replace with UK parts which can wreck to mods on a car ...
Advantages: Aesthetically pleasing, stylish, spacious boot, security, quick and knee tremblingly superior!!!, Disadvantages: can be expensive to run....thats it really!!!
of its size is the opening is a little small. This of course can hamper putting in awkward items such as a pushchair in - but you soon learn a technique to over come this, so it is not really a big deal.
The drive of the 156 is short of exceptional?even the 1.8 model has a quick acceleration and high speed, but the 2.0 has even more grunt. The sound of the engine could be compared to a quiet TVRTuscan or large Tiger purring, it really is a sweet sound, one which you never get tired of listening to!
There has been much said in the press about Alfa's having a tendency to understeer but I have not found this to be the case of the 156, if anything I found it to be spot on, the cornering at low and high speed is responsive and accurate, something one demands these days rather than requests.
The tight suspension makes the cornering easier but ...
