As a child who loved all things soft and cuddly, I was a huge fan of the TY beanie babies. My friends and I were obsessed, always buying them with our pocket money. Between us I think we would have had every single one!
There are all sorts of animals to collect in the TY range, and quite a selection of Beanie Baby Bears. Needless to say, these are a wide variety of bears of all sorts. Not the grizzly or polar type, but the teddy bear type!
One of these bears I had was America the bear. He was the bear that, well, represented America! There were various country bears and this was one of my favourites. Sitting down, he looks quite cute. He is a sky blue colour, with the american flag on the right of his chest. Around his next he has a little bow the colours of the American flag: blue, red, white. His little face is so adorable, with two beady black eyes and abeady black nose. His ears are very round and cute too.
The bear feels quite soft to touch, with his warm fur and soft stuffing fluff. If you give his bum or paws a squeeze you'll find that they have beans inside him. This makes this unsuitable for hcildren of a very young age, just in case there is an accident and he leaks them.
On the left ear of the bear there is alittle heart shaped tag. Opening it up you will find a little poem. There is a little poem for each bear, and America had his specail one too. Its not so much of a poem though as a touching message. It reads:
In memory of those who lost their lives in the national catastrophe that took place on September 11, 2001. We mourn for them and express our deepest sympathy to their families.
God Bless America
I thought that was rather sweet and made this bear all the more important!
If you want to walk into a shop and buy this bear, well you cant! He is retired, which means they no longer make or sell him. However it is possible to find him on eBay. This means there is no set price. As he is old some may sell him cheap, but since he is retired others will look at him as being 'antique' and charge quite a profitable price! Personally I would not pay over £5!
America is a cute little bear, also available in white, and definitely part of everybody's collection if they can get hold of him!
