From an early age, my friends and I were addicted to collecting TY beanies. For those of you who do not know (where have you been?), TY Beanies are a collection of little teddies in all forms of animals and teddy bears. Once you start a collection they are quite addictive. You find you are always looking for new ones and cannot stop buying them - havoc for your wallet, heaven for your collection!
One of the Beanies is a fish, who goes by the name of Coral. Its such a beautiful name - I was obsessed with sea coral as a child so this is a delightful treat for me. Coral is very attractive to look at too. She is coated in a delightful mix of rainbow colours: blues, yellows, pinks. She reminds me of the Rainbow Fish book every child will have read at some point, something else we can relate to with this fish. She is not as pluffed up as other TYs, so cannot sit on her own, but she can lie down which is not so bad! She has a cute little mouth too that looks like it is sucking on something. Coral has a peculiar look about her, but one that is gorgeous!
To the touch Coral is quite soft. Her 'scales' are very smooth and warm. In her tail she has a few beans but nowhere near as much as the other TYs. However I would not recommend you wash her in a machine - there is still that chance of her ripping and creating a mess! Her insides are filled with not gut, but plumped stuffing fluff, making her cozy and cuddly.
The little fish comes with a little tag, a little red heart with the TY symbol on it. Inside you will find a special little poem dedicated to Coral. This particular poem reads:
Coral is beautiful, as you know Made of colors in the rainbow Whether it's pink, yellow or blue These colors were chosen just for you!
I think this is a beautiful poem. There is something about it that reaches out to the heart. Its a bright and colourful poem, certain to put a smile on your face.
If you want to buy little Coral, you may have a task on your hands. She is now known as 'retired', which means you cannot buy her in stores as she has been discontinued by TY so they can make room for new editions. You may however be able to buy her on auction sites such as eBay, or at car boot sales. This means that the price is not guaranteed. Some may price her low as he is so old, but others may see her as an antique in the collection, and will price her quite high. Personally I would not pay more than £4 or £5 for her, unless she was perhaps one of the last few TYs I needed for my collection.
Coral is one of my favourite 'underwater' TY beanies and is very pretty indeed. Her colours are catching and she is so soft and cuddly! If you get the chance to buy her do not let the opportunity pass - no collection is complete without her!
