Everybody my age had TY beanies, they were adorable! My close circle of friends and I were huge collectors and between us we have most, if not all, of them going! One of these is England the Bear.
England: The name is pretty self explanatory. This bear represents the country England. Whether it is bought as a souvineer by a tourist in England, or by somebody whose home country is England and they are proud of that, this bear is there to represent it.
Appearance: To look at, England from a distance seems plain, almost like a basic white bear. Indeed, his fur is white, which goes hand in hand with the whiteness of the England flag. Around his neck there is a little red, white and blue bow - the colours of the Union Jack. This alone is cute, and then on his chest you will notice a little England flag has been stitched on. This adds to the appearance and makes England the bear look even more cute.
Poem: Each TY has a little heart shaped tag on their ear, and inside each one there is a poem to go with it. England's reads:
England is surrounded by the sea For many, there's no other place to be It looks quaint and small for its size Traditionally, that's been its best disguise!
I love this poem. Although born in Scotland, I was brought up in England and, indeed, it is where my heart belongs. It's such a basic yet meaningful poem, simply delightful!
Washability: White fur gets dirty easily, and if this happens to England the bear, I would not recommend you put him in the washing machine. He has beans in his rear end and if they were to rip into the washing machine it could cause some serious mess and damage! A hand wash would be a much safer option!
Price: England is retired, which means TY no longer manufacture him. However never fear, you still may be able to buy him from Car boot sales or places such as eBay. Though this does mean prices will vary. He may be expensive as he is antique, but could be cheap since he is so old! I would pay around £5 or £6 for him personally. He is quite a special bear, representing something which is close in many people's hearts, so is worth that little bit more that many other TY bears.
England is an adorable bear that is for sure, but he is also very special in the fact that he represents England as a country. He is a TY to be proud of and is not one to be absent from anybody's collection.
