When I was younger, my friends and I were addicted to teddies, more in particular those in the TY Beanie range! TY make a lot of soft toys, in all forms, including animals bears, and Beanie Boppers which are like little people. My friends and I loved the TY beanies, and between us probably had all of them!
There are lots of different animals in the TY range, and a lot of them were cats, much to my delight. One of the little cats is known as Frightful. She is not just a normal little kitty though, but represents Halloween. I love witches especially, so this beanie is perfect for me. Frightful is jet black, with bright orange paws. On her head there is an adorable witches hat with cobwebs, complete with little hanging spider. She definitely has a frightening look to her, but she is utterly gorgeous!
To the touch, Frightful has quite long fur which is quite soft to the touch. It would at first seem like she is filled with nothing more than stuffing fluff, however in her bum and her legs there are beans. While this adds weight to her, it does mean that if she gets a slight rip in her she will become a choking hazard so not suitable for very young children. Also I would recommend a hand wash instead of putting her in a machine - if she were to rip in the washing machine it would cause a huge mess, and it could also ruin her hat.
On Frightful's left ear there is a little heart shaped red tag with TY written in the middle. If you open this cardboard tag up, you will find a little poem. Each tag has a poem on each Beanie, and this one is special to Frightful. It reads:
Though ghosts and ghouls might lurk about And make you want to shriek or shout This Halloween you shouldn't fear Because Frightful the cat is here !
I wasn't too sure what to make of this poem at first. Though having read it a few times Ive grown to like it. I was hoping it was going to be a little more haunting. But either way it is quite delightful.
Unfortunately, Frightful is now 'retired', which means the TY company have stopped manufacturing her. However never fear, if you are desparate to have her in your collection then it may still be possible to buy her. She can be found occasionally on auction sites such as eBay, or at car boot sales too. Though this does mean that a price is not guaranteed. Some will sell her cheaply since she is older now, but others will see her as an antique in the collection and price her highly. I would personally not pay more than £5 or £6 for her, unless of course she was one of the last few I needed. I had not bought Frightful myself but she was my friends to begin with so I am not certain of her original price, but to me she would be worth more than some.
Frightful is very cute and, yes, a little frightening too! She is a perfect gift for Halloween and is great for people like myself who adore witches. No collection of TY or TY cats is going to be complete without her.
