Company: I think every little kid had at least one TY beanie if they were a 90s child. Its something that we used to talk about at school all the time, meeting up at each others houses each weekend after we had just spend all of that week's pocket money on the latest editions. I had quite a large collection, with quite a lot of different animals. I had a good few dogs, one of which is called Dog.
Dog: The name Dog is hardly anything to get excited about! You;d think TY could have came up with something a bit more original wouldn't you? But this name is understandable. For, Dog is not just any Dog, but he is a Zodiac Dog! Released in 2006, he represents all the Dogs out there. Personally I am a Monkey (zodiac, not real!) but I think this dog is adorable! He looks a little like a pug in my opinion, and has golden orange fur. He looks like he is scowling but deep down I know his heart is pure! He has almost-bronze coloured feet that match his inner ears. To the touch his fur is very soft and fluffy, great for snuggling up with! He is definitely an adorable Dog!
Dog looks like he is made all of stuffing fluff and fur, but inside him there are lots of little beans. If he were to rip they can be a choking hazard so I would say this is not suitable for anybody under the age of three. Also if you were to put him in a washing machine if he got dirty, not only would it matt his beautiful fur but it could also cause his beans to spill everywhere if he ripped. It would be a huge mess and not worth the hasstle - a simple scrub by hand is a much safer option!
Poem: Each TY comes with a poem. It can be found inside a little cardboard red tag in the shape of a heart which is attached to their ear. Dog does not have a poem as such though, more of a message. It reads:
1946, 1958, 1970, 1982, 1994, 2006 You work well with people Often loyal and very honest Can be stubborn and selfish Marry a horse or tiger Beware of dragons!
It is not a poem that I find personally interesting, but if you are a Dog then perhaps it is one that will excite you.
Purchasing: Dog is one of th TYs that is retired. This means that he is no longer made or sold by the companies (he has been discontinued). However if you are desparate to have Dog in your collection, never fear! You may be able to buy him on various auction sites such as eBay, or from car boot sales. The only down side about this, apart from him being second hand, it means that there is no price guarante. Some may sell him cheaply as he is old, but others may see him as being an antique and charge quite an amount for him. I personally would not pay more than £4 or £5 for him, unless he was the one of the last in my collection I needed of course!
Dog may not look overly friendly but he is utterly adorable. You can almost picture his little tail wagging as you give him a new home and love him as if he were a real dog. He is perfect for anybody born in the year of the Dog, but is a delight to have in your collection even if this is not the case.
Advantages: Cute, cuddly, lots of different types to buy Disadvantages: None
I haven’t got any TY Classics, but they do look quite tempting to buy. They’re about the same size as a buddy, but look even cuter. All the Classic bears have a pretty ribbon around their neck, which matches the colour of their fur.
ZODIACS
From the Chinese Zodiac signs, TY has produced Zodiac Beanies. They are a rat, ox, tiger, rabbit, dragon, snake, horse, goat, monkey, rooster, dog and pig, so that’s twelve different Zodiacs in total. I think the rooster and dragon are certainly the nicest, because they’ve got a brilliant range of colours.
BABY TY
Baby TYs are made especially for newborn babies, as the toys have stitched eyes, so babies can’t swallow the beads. These loveable pals have got slight similarities to the original beanies, but are groovy pastel colours.
