T in the Park has become one of the biggest festivals in Britain in a very short time. This year, ”The Main Event” is over two days: Saturday the 7th and Sunday the 8th of July, At Balado, near Kinross.
Over the two days you will be able to choose between eight stages, over 100 acts and about seven toilets. As usual, campers will be advised to get in at the earliest opperchancity in order to get the best pitch. (Basics only are advised, as theft from tents can be a big problem at events like these)
The main stage and stage two are where the most popular, (or biggest draws) will appear. Slam tent is where the DJ’s and techno-garage-house type of stuff will be going on and Kink Tut’s tent has a lot of “happening” acts doing their stuff.
Saturday (7th) Main stage acts include Steriophonics (Headlining), David Gray, James, The Dandy Warhols, Shed Seven and many more.
Stage two has Catatonia, Paul Weller (doing a solo set, just the king of Brit. pop and his guitar),Wheatus, The Proclaimers (Yeah!), Sunna and a few more besides.
Slam Tent will be highlighting Dave Clarke, Carl Craig, Jon Carter and loads more peeps I’ve never heard of
King Tut’s Tent Has the amazing Divine Comedy, Nelly Furtado, Elbow and a load of wannabees who may actually “be” one day. (Witness the rise and rise of Coldplay who were in this position last year)
Sunday (8th) Main Stage headlines with the homecoming queen Charlene Spinetti and Texas, Coldplay come in from the cold that was king tuts tent last year and play the Main stage this year (nice!), we also have that mad man Beck, the somewhat irritating Toploader (more famous for their groupie), those Weezer geeks and some more minor players getting their chance to shine.
Stage two Kick off with JJ72 (?), the mega Ash!!!, Grandaddy (not mine), Cosmic Rough Riders etc etc…..
Slam Tent have Slam (live), Doc Martin, Josh Wink (I think I have spelled that right), the infamous Pete tong and a few others with silly names.
King Tut’s Tent ends with the brilliant Stereo MC’s, Tricky, the excruciatingly painful Arab Strap, the amusingly named Mull Historical Society and the Bush, The Tree and Me.
Apart from the music there is a funfair, umpteen burger bars selling cholesterol buns and salmonella with first aid tents situated (wisely) nearby.
The organisers have issued some guidelines for festival goers, these include the advice: Not to bring pets, or containers made of glass. Do Bring some warm clothing (It is Scotland after all!), your ticket! Money (nothing is for free), for some reason they want you to bring a mobile phone (if you have one), apparently the organisers have, in conjunction with Orange, set up an up-to-the-minute festival information line. This service will feature weather reports for the area, gossip about the bands, line-up time’s etc. Dial 177 from your Orange phone for this info or if you are on another tariff dial 07973 100 177.
Weekend tickets are £64.00, Day Tickets are £35:00 and are subject to a booking fee.
To order tickets by Phone call 0141 339 8383 or for more than I can give visit the web site at www.tinthepark.com
How helpful would this review be to a person making a buying decision? Rating guidelines
Advantages: Both have excellent lineups, Scottish atmosphere, deeply memorable Disadvantages: TITP - the chances of bad weather, GOTG - lack of traditional atmosphere
