There is a 3 inch touch screen which supports TouchFlo making it easy to use your fingers for drag and drop and it also supports 65,000 colours. The screen also tilts up so you can use the device like a mini laptop.
The Keyboard
The keyboard slides out from under the screen and is the usual QWERTY type with an integrated numerical keypad in the middle of it. I don't think it's the sort of keyboard where you can easily touch type though.
Connectivity
The device supports HSDPA Tri-band UMTS (3G) for very fast downloads and Quad-band GSM so you can use it anywhere in the world.
Software
The device runs on Microsoft Windows Mobile 6 and has Microsoft Office mobile including Word, Excel and Powerpoint pocket versions on it.
Hardware and Memory
There is 128 MB of RAM and 256 MB of ROM as well as an expansion card slot which can take micro SD cards which come in capacities of up to 8 GB. There's a 3 way jog wheel and OK button on the side so you can easily cycle through the applications or settings.
There's also a built in GPS receiver which works very well with Google Maps and TomTom software.
The Camera
The camera is a bit of a let down. It has 3 megapixels and auto focus and auto exposure and useful other features like variable white balance but, strangely, no flash which I can't understand. I would have thought that was one of the most obvious features to include.
Audio
The integrated speaker on the back is useless for listening to music and, unfortunately, you're forced to use the cheap uncomfortable headphones that come with the unit unless you want to invest in a pair of bluetooth headphones (sorry, I forgot to mention earlier that the device supports Bluetooth 2.0)
All-in-all an excellent pda (shame about the camera)
Advantages: Loaded with features, small & light (considering whats in it) Disadvantages: Camera lacks flash & has problems in low light
The Vario 3 is a fantastic phone that is bursting with features. I have had this Phone for about 2 months now and have had no problems with it. To get the most out of it you MUST take the web 'n walk package to get the unlimited internet access.
The Vario III comes loaded with Windows Mobile 6 Phone edition, so it contains all of the things you would expect to find on a modern PDA.
It also contains GPS which can be used with any sat nav software ... ...co pilot.
Here is a list of some of its main features.
Great connectivity including 3G,HSDPA,EDGE & Bluetooth:
The connection type is automatically chosen depending on whats available in the area, for example if 3G & HSDPA are both available the phone will choose HSDPA as its the fastest. The phone will remain connected the internet when it has a signal unless you disable it the connection menu.

Advantages: Awesome array of features Disadvantages: Battery talktime
I first received this phone about 18months ago as part of a T Mobile contract. I was instantly astouded by the fantastic range of features it had to offer including GPS, WI FI, Bluetooth, 3G Internet and video calling capability. I have since installed Tom Tom and that works well for most of the time (although sometimes there is a tendency to not locate your current position but I'm sure that is a software problem more than a hardware failure). So, ... ...features of ease of use and customisation options. However, as a phone it falls down is quite a few areas. the most important is speed. The phone only allows me a couple of rings before the answer phone cuts in because it takes ages to load the 'phone' program every time someone calls. ...

Advantages: Does everything in an ideal form factor Disadvantages: Battery won't last 2 days without a re-charge.
. For example, this is also called the MDAVarioIII by t-mobile. That unit has a smooth, shiny back. That makes it slide around on a table. The HTC unit has a slightly rubberised back, which doesn't slide and is easier to hold.
Also, synchronisation with WM6 and ActiveSync 4.5 is awkward and takes a lot of coaxing.
Also, don't use the provided version of Sprite Backup, it'll duplicate files on your machine and if you have 6000-odd PIM items, you'll get a 30 Mb pim.vol file that when duplicated will grind the machine to a halt. Use version 6, available direct from Spite, and you'll be fine.
Took me about a week to set the thing up, but once done, it's great. ...
