I bought my Takamine G series (EG54 left handed) about 2 years ago, and simply love playing it.
I admit I'm not a huge fan of acoustic music, but this guitar certainly helped. Its a pleasure to play, with an amp or without - the neck is nice and fast for an acoustic and just feels good to play. The guitar has some weight to it as well, which i like, as it feels like your are actually playing a crafted instrument rather than some plastic cheap toy. Add to this that it looks awesome, and you have a really pleasing instrument.
The simple to use controls like gain, eq bypass and the 3 band Eq make dialling in a fairly great tone easy, and although i don't really need the tuner, its handy as a quick reference to make sure your really in tune. However, I've found that the 3 band tuner mentioned above doesn't really have a huge effect to my ears, but that might be more to do with my amp than the Eq itself (admittantly, I don't really use it as i rely on a separate 10 band EQ to mould my sound).
This actually leads on quite well to my next point, which is the comparison between amplified and acoustic sounds; and i have to admit i prefer this un-amplified. I have been playing a number of years and i find that the sound i can get amplified just isn't as nice as the when i play acoustic - especially if i swap strings from metal and play it as a pure acoustic. Its not that the amplified sound is bad, its quite rounded and pleasing, its that i really like the un-amplified sound.
Another thing i really like is that it down tunes well - something not really that hard on an acoustic anyway, but good to know as i really love playing in C#, and it sounds great on an acoustic.
Overall, considering the Price (for a left hand its around £300, or was anyway) this is great value for money, and i really don't regret buying this -it looks great, plays well and comes with some decent features on the little magic box that does the electronics.

Advantages: This is a well-built guitar that has plenty of appeal and sounds like the most expensive guitars on the market. Disadvantages: This guitar has BRIDGE PINS! GOD, I HATE BRIDGE PINS!

Review of Takamine G-Series
Advantages: These strings are affordable, and have never given me a problem. Disadvantages: As with any other strings, these will NOT make newbie guitarists sound like seasoned pros. Oh, well.
