old-skool remains supreme

Advantages: great oldskool cartoon for fans, young or old. Also includes an episode of Transformers Takara "The Four Soldiers from the Sky"
Disadvantages: none

I always enjoyed Transformers as a kid, and seeing this new re-release on the shop shelf brought back some good memories. The story is about a civil war which has gone on for millions of years between two factions of a robotic race - the heroic Autobots and the evil Decepticons. This special collectors edition is just a remastered edition in a new black box - which makes it the only main difference to the original video release. However, the video includes an episode of "Transformers Takara". "The Four Soldiers from the Sky" is an episode from the Japanese version of Transformers, so it's dubbed into English (which can make for a bit of a shoddy translation sometimes - but still understandable). The episode makes a nice addition to the tape - making it a must for fans of the series (especially the older series). Just as a note ...

Review of Transformers - The Movie (Animated) (DVD)

More than meets the eye!

Advantages: An 80s cartoon turned into one of the greatest looking movies of all time
Disadvantages: Maybe they could have included a few more trans... Na none whatsoever!

Wow. How good was this! 80s kids playing with their transformers toys and watching the cartoons were more or less wetting themselves when a big screen human / CGI version was in the works. Not only that but a bottomless pot of cash to spend on it and a release date for the summer 2007. Blockbuster at its best! ---Transformers History--- It would be rude of me not to touch on the history of the whole brand! Well in 1984 Japanese company Takara produced the toyline which was later purchased by Hasbro. The original name given by Takara was Diaclones and Micromen, this was later changed by Hasbro to what we know it today. The idea behind the toy was to shift the seperate parts of the robot and create a vehicle or device and change back again which is where 'more than meets the eye' and 'robots in disguise' came from. The toyline split ...

Review of Transformers (Blu-Ray)

My childhood has returned to me.

Advantages: It's Transformers
Disadvantages: Um... Err...

After months and months of waiting (release date kept changing) it finally arrived, the most important part of my childhood, well apart from Lego. How many of us can remember that awe inspiring theme tune that led us to believe that there really was "More Than Meets The Eye". As soon as the disk is loading you are treated to introductory footage from the BBC's "I Love 1984" with celebrates telling you what they remember best about the cartoon. After that you can either watch the movie or have a look at the special features that they have put onto the disk. I'll tell you about them before talking about the movie. You can have a look at the original theatrical trailer which brings back memories, and there is a musical picture gallery which has stills and concept artwork from the film. The crowning feature has to be Takara's "The Four ...
