Eye makeup removers are one of the most important steps in your skincare routine as the skin around the eye is so delicate, and are a tricky one to get right in my opinion. Either they are effective and remove every last trace of makeup but are oil-based and don't feel lovely on the skin, or they are water based and just too gentle and leave half of your makeup sitting on your eye!

I received the Talika Lash Conditioning Cleanser as a free sample and was interested to try it, having heard good things about the Talika range. It claims to be the first non-oily makeup remover on the market capable of removing waterproof mascaras, and the first that is dual performance, conditioning your lashes as it cleanses. It contains cornflower extract for it's softening and astringent properties, and silk proteins to condition the lashes.

It's available in either a 50ml size for £7, or a 100ml size for £13, and is packaged in a pump action bottle. You can see the blue of the liquid through the bottle and the packaging is sleek and attractive. To use you simply pump the amount you require onto a cotton pad and stroke it over your eye a few times to remove makeup.

The liquid is a gel-like consistency and is quite thick and feels really gentle and refreshing on the eyes as you apply. I really love the gel texture as it means you don't feel the delicate skin dragging as much as you would with a liquid remover. The fact that it is oil free gets a big thumbs up from me, as I dislike the oiliness of eyemakeup removers in general and that makes this one far more pleasurable to use.

However, when it comes to actually removing all traces of makeup, this one does fall slightly short. It is not capable of removing my waterproof mascara as it claims, I had to break out the Lancome Bi Facil for that, as barely any had been removed at all. It does remove all other makeup well though in a couple of gentle strokes but just isn't powerful enough to cut through that waterproof mascara. You also need to be careful not to get this into your eyes too - although it claims to be suitable for sensitive eyes, if you get this into your eyes it really does burn! With an eyemakeup remover this is bound to happen at some point, so seems a bit of a foot in mouth moment from Talika!

As far as conditioning my lashes, I can't say I have noticed a considerable difference - they're not suddenly much longer or thicker, just exactly the same as they've always been.

All of the negative aspects of this product aside, it will probably surprise you to hear that I would buy a full size bottle of this! I can live with the fact that it doesn't remove waterproof mascara as I can switch to another remover if I'm wearing it. My favourite mascara is the Blinc mascara anyway, which doesn't require makeupremover to get it off, so no big problem for me there. I really like the gel consistency far more than the liquid ones I've used, where you can be quite aware of the scratchiness of the cotton pad on your eye. The experience of using this felt so much more gentle on my eyes that I did really enjoy using it - my eyes felt refreshed and the skin was lifted, and with a little bit of extra zing to them.
