Having quickly discounted the insurance offered by my network provider as over priced, I did what I do with all my insurance policies and looked online.
There are many small websites offering mobile phone insurance, but lots look like you wouldn't trust them with anything, let alone insurance.

...large and growing but expensive), Talkcover appeared to offer the best balance of complete cover (loss, theft, accidental damage, fraudulent calls, brand new replacement phones) with the best price by far.
Talkcover gave me 12 months for the price of 9, and they insured all 3 phones (my mega expensive Nokia 8600 Luna, and 2 SonyEricsson walkman phones used by my children) for just under £7.50 a month in total - for all 3 phones. At ... ...good value. My network wanted nearly as much as this for just the Nokia.
I was able to take out cover instantly on the website, received an email confirming cover was in place, and then the documents arrived a couple of days later. All very smooth.
There was a question in my mind that it may not be worth insuring the phones at all when the network first quoted me, but the 8600 is very expensive to replace, and my kids ... more

Out of my final shortlist of Talkcover, CUSC (as they had been around for many years, but still have a poor website and the poor Ciao review put me off), and CPP PhoneSafe (as I have heard of them in the financial press, they are large and growing but expensive), Talkcover appeared to offer the best balance of complete cover (loss, theft, accidental damage, fraudulent calls, brand new replacement phones) with the best price by far.

At around £2.50 per month per phone I consider this pretty good value. My network wanted nearly as much as this for just the Nokia.

There was a question in my mind that it may not be worth insuring the phones at all when the network first quoted me, but the 8600 is very expensive to replace, and my kids are bound to break theirs. At £2.50 each it seemed worth it in the end.
I have not needed to claim as yet, which I guess is the final test, but they do state they offer 48 hr replacement.
Also, not strictly in my own experience but I thought worth mentioning, I told my boss (I work for a small consultancy) of the multi-phone policy, and he has had an even cheaper quote for the 20 or so HTC PDAs that they provide to all of us at £2.00 per month per phone.
Advantages: Slightly cheaper than average. Disadvantages: Very poor customer services. Slow and incompetent repair service.
Slightly cheaper than average.
Not a "Replacement as New" policy. Meaning they will try to fix your damaged phone or replace it with a second hand model rather than just give you a new one as most other insurers do at the same price.
They do not pay for couriers as most other insurers do at the same price. Instead they rely on the Royal Mail and YOU have to pay for postage.
Customer services are unprofessional, rude ... ...to their customers)!
Customer services do not reply to all incoming emails from customers.
If an accidental damage claim is made they will ask you to send your phone to the "Fone Clinic" with a promise of repair or replacement within 48hrs. In my case it took 2 weeks.
The "Fone Clinic" seemingly have zero quality standards. Anyone who played with Lego as a child would probably be better off fixing their phone themselves rather ...
