Manufacturer's product description
Tally's all new T6215 is the most capable mid-range line printer in its class, boasting superlative 1500 line-per-minute performance, this product truly moves the boundaries of line matrix printing into the new millennium. In addition to the T6215's unbeatable performance and functionality, its unshakeable build quality and its massive 273, 000 page per month workload make it an ideal printer for heavy duty, mission-critical applications where total confidence in the printer is paramount. Brimming with more emulations, fonts and barcodes as standard than any competitor, the T6215 is as versatile as it is capable. Tally's advanced "Page Segmentation Architecture", coupled with a RISC processor ensures that even the most complex data stream is printed in high definition and at maximum speed. In addition to the inclusion of all the industry-standard emulations, the T6215 offers a series of interfaces for connection to a wide range of host systems. Serial and Bi-directional parallel interfaces are provided as standard, and IBM Twinax and Coax, and LAN Ethernet interfaces are available optionally. Additionally, as you might expect from a Market-leader and innovator such as Tally, an IPDS upgrade is available not only for the Twinax / Coax interface but also, uniquely, for the Ethernet interface. Capable of handling up to 6-part forms, the T6215 demonstrates assured paper handling thanks to a straight paper path, quad tractors and high torque motor. A wide variety of paper types are printed on and stacked with ease, conferring absolute confidence in unattended operation. Dual Constant and Enhanced print modes result in richer, sharper and clearer print in a wide range of font styles, and Tally's unique "Read/Right Algorithm" ingeniously prints denser and more readable barcodes ensuring reliable first-pass reading.
Advantages: Quick reliable dot matrix printer Disadvantages: Just remember it is a dot matrix
...with the printer are as follows, Windows support - tends to push the printer into graphics mode which slows it down - no problem with our package! and also the rise of cheap lasers and laser printed stationary.
This is not a long review as there is not really a lot to say.
Noise level is not too bad - foam lined inside but you still won't want to sit next to one on a long run of delivery notes....

Advantages: Purchase price, total cost of ownership, quality Disadvantages: Paper jams
...a few colour laser printers at a similar price and most are significantly more expensive. I have seen it available on line recently for as little as £535.00 but most suppliers offer it at around the £600.00 mark at the moment.
One of the most significant costs for small to medium enterprises is the total cost of ownership. This is a speculative figure arrived at that takes into account the purchase price, consumables, expected life span and anticipated repair and maintenance costs. Our Tally was purchased primarily because the independent reports of the budget colour laser market suggested this printer had quite considerably lower total cost of ownership than other similar printers. The costs per page are listed as:
1.1p per page for a black and white office memo.
4.7p per page for a colour office memo.
7.3p per page for colour marketing...

Advantages: Reliable, speed of response Disadvantages: Not very flexible, no graphics support
...to produce statements on 2 part paper, we still have dot-matrix printers in everyday use.
In Use
The controls for this OKI printer are set out on a front panel. There are no display panels on this printer; it relies on old fashioned touch sensitive buttons. There are various options available from these buttons, such as changing font size, character pitch and print quality. For most users though the Online and Print buttons are the ones that will get the most use!
This dot-matrix printer can produce a fairly quick printing speed, although it can’t compare to the speed of a laser printer as it is still reliant on technology similar to that of a typewriter!
The response time for print requests is pretty quick. This is due to the fact that the printer can only deal with text only requests, so there are no large graphics for the printer...
