I also wanted a lens that would limit the amount of kit I needed when taking my camera on a trip and this made this lens ideal. This lens feels well built and it was deveoped especially for digital ameras thus the Di rating. It is reasonably light and smalland can focus in fairly low light with the autofocus being quiet enough not to distract anyone in a formal setting. However the lens may have a wide focal range but the quality of the images throughout the range differs a lot.At the wide end of the lens the corners of the image has very soft foucsing making this lens not suitable for landscape, and really making the lens a usable 50-200mm. At £250 this i not too expensive a lens but, if your willing to take the risk of getting dust on your sensor and dont mind changing lenses often your money would be better spent on some secand hand primary lenses instead. The macro capabilities of the lens are fair but this is not a topic I have that much experience with.
