Advantages: Saves a lot of messing about with plugs Disadvantages: comes at a cost
...a particular signals to be routed correctly, and invariably resulted in me getting on my hands and knees to select the right button (rather defeating the purpose of having a remote control)
This is where the Btech BT941 - QUATTRO+ comes in.
For anybody in a hurry, or who gets confused by long descriptions of kit; it lets you connect all your video stuff and switches automatically, without you having to get off your bum, or fumble for a remote control.
It isn't so much a remote control switch as an intelligent video hub.
After connecting all the cables to the back of the unit (and I'll go into that in more detail later on) - using it in normal mode is sheer simplicity - set the TV to the AV channel, and whatever video source is switched on will automatically get routed to the telly. No buttons on the box to press, no remotes to select...

Advantages: Great playback of CD as well as DVD Disadvantages: None that come to mind.
...In the interests of disclosure, I used to sell these products.
This is a nice DVD player. Ideally partnered with the Azure 540R surround amp, but also with any other good quality products. This is a real audiophile/videophile player and is capable of geting so much more from a disk than those nasty players sold for £20 in your local supermarket. Don't let me put you off it though if you don't count yourself as an enthusiast, just a user. Its very easy to use and should outlast the cheapies very comfortably and will let you get so much more enjoyment from films and music - yes it does even work very well as a CD player. (I know all DVD players can actually play CD's. But that doesn't mean that many of them do a good job of it - the 540D does).
I'm going to go off on a slight tangent here so scroll down a bit if you don't want to read...

Advantages: Amazingly clear sound (especially so in Class A), well built Disadvantages: Very heavy, maybe not visually to some peoples tastes, can get hot in Class A
...at a stretch with my eyes shut listening to music, hearing new sounds and tangents to songs.
For the price, it is excellent, as long as you feel the other components of your system will be able to keep up. As usual with Marantz, the build quality is excellent - the whole rear of the amp and many of the internal components are fabricated from copper, explaining the weight (Obviously not just being for show, copper is a well known reducer of interference and is very conductive). Another, but very minor, plus is that if you have another Marantz component in your system, the controller can be used to operate all of the components, thus reducing the need for 3 or 4 controllers.
The only downsides I can think of are that it is very heavy and bulky, and may not be the most attractive amp on the market. Also, it can get fairly warm in Class A, so make...
